You should try:
- Updating your Unrealtournament to the lastest version (436).
- Choosing another rendering device (Direct3D should work fine) - Or just TRY Software rendering to see if it's a rendering problem (although Software rendering sucks)
- Update your Video Card drivers... it may help.

You shouldn't update your UT to 436 (which is the latest official patch, but there are others such as 451-> for online play -> breaks compatibility with unrealed 2.0 -> don't know if it's fixed yet) because UT goty is already at version 436.

Weak graphics cards you have. TNT2 16 mb.
Seeing you have directx 9 installed, this might be a problem. I'm not sure.
-> This version of DirectX is better for the latest graphics cards.

Your graphics card is defnitaly a problem, with your current rig.

Edit: Try Direct3D indeed.

Glide isn't supported apparently.

FRIGGIn' slow buf :D !!! Slow!!! Took me a while to edit this post... oh well.

UT goty is at version 432, as far as I can tell. Those non-original patches, I got one long ago, and I was pissed off when I saw the UnrealEditor wouldn't open anymore... so I never tried it again.

I am not a video card expert but could an old card like that not be a 3dfx card? :)

About GOTY, I have seen two different GOTY covers.
I dont know If that has anything to do with USA/European versions, or maby with the 436 patch release.
Or maby there isint any difference between them.

the 2nd pic is the UT v400 1999 release.
utretail4009ps.png

Whatever the version is it shouldn't be hard at all the determine it. Start UT and hit esc.
Upper right hand corner displays the version number.
When UT crashes look in UnrealTournament.log for any useful info.

The only "incompatability" it causes on UEng games is inconsequential.
Unless you consider a firewall that is actually turned ON by default resulting in an incompatability w/ any product.

Pred, unless the first retail release large box was repackaged after the small dualCD case box GOTY then no. I just find it strange that different versions over a year apart look very similar to the cam pic of my own box, case and cds that are v400.

Just for fun, some scan from my good old french version of the first UT box.

You will notice an interesting missing text on the box and on both the CD.

It was because Unreal had some bad publicity with some parental associations in my country, and to avoid possible problems, the editor (GT at this time, it was not Atari)made a workaround by deleting the word Unreal from those items.

It was a surprising move and really un-needed in my opinion back in 1999, as those parental associations had very low influence at this old time (and they have always a low influence even now) and Unreal sold enough despite them.

By here it is , the Epic&DE game from 1999 "Tournament" :D

It was version 400, and i played it on Software render at this time :)
Ah, this time, when i had not already moved over the 30 years old barrier

No, no... :) nVidia, as he said. 3DFX cards were all "Voodoo", I guess. At least, I had a Voodoo 3 200 16 MBs, my first 3D video card, it's the best piece I've ever seen, even compared to the best video cards today. It's a shame it doesn't support newer Direct X versions, so it's "unusuable" with recent games, but on old games (like UT), 3dfx cards have an amazing performance... ;)

Hmmm... I can't say much about this, all I know is that the GOTY CDs I have seen are all 432 with Bonus Pack 1 and 2, ChaosUT and Rocket Arena.

Fire up the game, look at the UT desktop at the right upper corner.
I assume this is for all versions... since it's been ages I had anything installed below 436

More than 4 years I think...
