Epic Hiring For New IP

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I noticed over at Joystiq that they've highlighted a programmer job opening posted at Epic Games. In the job description (below) they suggest that the person hired will be working on Gears 3 as well as a new unnamed IP. Could it be a game in the universe featured in the "Samaritan" Unreal Engine trailer featured previously?

Would you like to write code that is used by thousands of developers in hundreds of games? Work with a team that consistently ships multi-million unit selling games? And be a part of creating something Epic? If you answered yes to any of those questions we would like to talk to you about joining our team, where everything we do is Epic.

Epic Games is looking for Gameplay Programmers to join the team currently working on Gears of War 3, as well as a new unannounced IP in development. Our Gameplay Programmers have an intrinsic understanding of what makes a game fun and the analytical mind to break that down into its constituent parts. They Experiment with game design and use rapid prototyping, yet have the engineering background to make strong architectural and algorithmic decisions. If you are a game designer trapped inside the body of an engineer, we'd like to hear from you.

Epic hiring for a new Internet PROTOCOL? Okay.

EDIT: No seriously what does IP stand for? I know it's the new talk for a title, but what does it stand for? Seriously I always found that retarded, since it sounds like Internet Protocol.

Oh yeah that. Hard to remember because it's so business sounding. Seriously calling game title intellectual property? Hello?

Everyone go back calling it actual names, like it used to in 90s and beginning of 2000s, seriously. Can we stop ruining this with the SUIT talk?

Precisely. Going with the spirit of time is usually good -- but if this involves us becoming "lawyerized", I'd say: fudge it.

Whatever it may be better be good and not some Gears of War or Modern Warfare clone. At least they aren't just pushing out another Unreal Tournament game.

Epic never makes proper clones but recently they're recycling unused Unreal ideas. Now with that Samaritan character who turns into a robot or whatever the hell it is, the dropped Unreal concept of morphing yourself into monsters is coming into my mind.

Capps also said the PC was once again a target for Epic, saying that it "has for too long been a port-to platform."

Translated to English : Our recent dodgy Pc ports didn't do well and our last console release was a flop. In other news Epic starts to suck up to bit torrent wielding PC pirates.
