I was screwin around with max possible FPS (like, staring at the floor with low resolutions) and I made a painful discovery..
The joystick drivers are a HUGE PERFORMANCE HIT for PantherXL or any other sort of stick users. Ok, I knew there was a performance decrease involved, but not to this extent.
So here's the staring-at-the-floor stats:
768x512 without joystick drivers - 385fps (!!!!!!)
768x512 with joystick drivers - 235fps
Now those two scores are insanely high BUT.. when you're actually in game it of course sinks to a normal range.. but damn. That's what, about 40% framerate decrease? Like.. if in game on average I'm getting 60ish with occasional drops to 35 and below, that mean I COULD be maintaining a way higher framerate? Hell of a sacrifice to use a joystick..
Grrmrm.
