EAS Maps in TDM

Is there a way...without modifying the maps to play any of the EAS maps in TDM? Some of those maps would make ideal TDM maps and it seems a shame not to be able to use them in TDM games. EAS is great and everyone loves it but TDM is still fun too and a lot of ppl play (my server is full quite a bit).

If there is a way the question would then be does the INF team or the custom maps authors have any problems with me running their EAS maps in TDM mode on my server?

I think what duke is trying to say is he is tired of capturing some CD which we dont even know what is on it.

DTAS was random, and always unpredictable. EAS is less skill and more routine. Thats what I loved about DTAS and even TDM with random spawning. It is always unpredictable and fresh.

What mappers need to do is make more dynamic EAS maps with multiple goals and random start locations ala Mostar. If the community can crank out 10-20 EAS maps like that and servers used them (GD server is always been geared towards custom maps) then im sure the Capture the CD bore will pass.

Personally some beautiful maps which are only capture the CD are boring to me, and I noticed people leave when many cap maps come on. But other maps that are more random and extensive see lots of action...

Is DTAS something that can be used with Inf 2.9? I am always willing to try something new with my server. Not enough players for 2 EAS servers so I have to do something different.

OK. I will look at putting up a 2.9 DTAS server. Do I need to add it to the ServerPackages or is it server side only?

So, is there any way I can force INF to load the EAS maps without having to rename them? If I rename them everyone will have to redownload them and I would like to prevent that, if possible.

Shan heres a rundown on what DTAS is:

2 Teams spawn. They appear in random locations on the TDM map, one team must defend its spawn location within a 15 meter radius while the other trys to take it. You must have 2 people within the area to take the cap point but if even one defender is in the area you cannot take it. Its that simple. Every round is different since its random.

I suggest the following EAS maps for TDM/DTAS:

Stalingrad

Ruin

SandmanDay or Night

Mostar

Nomad

Jerusalem ;)

Theres alot of other good ones too but those would kick ass in TDM. :tup:

Bad news. It appears that DTAS does not work in 2.9...at least in my config. I do not get a waypoint on the compass and a flag is not placed even though DTAS loads and shows up as an active mutator.

Not sure if there is anything anyone can do to fix it or find out whats wrong but I would like to run a DTAS server if we can get it figured out.

Here is the list of muties I am running:

The idea of DTAS is a cool idea which can be done ala, Mostar. I would love a map who's objectives consisted merely of say, 3 capture areas randomly placed out of a total of *shrug* 6 (or more) possible locations. The randomness of this would be what would make things very interesting and keep people's interest longer.

I've had DTAS working fine. It doesn't show up on the built-in compass or UTCompass as they weren't designed with DTAS in mind, but I'm sure either Olethros or myself could fix it (the old INFGPS worked, but that itself doesn't work with 2.9). You should get white messages in your chat box saying whether you're attacking or defending.

EDIT: Yurch permitting, I might have a go at making DTAS a gametype itself, then I should be able to get it working with the in-game compass.

Hmmmm...not working on my system. It shows up as a mutator but there are no flags or anything in spawn areas. All I did was add the mutator to Multi Muts INI file and added a serverpackages=dtas line (I tried both with and without sp= line). Never saw any messages or anything. Do I need to do anything else?

If you could look at making the waypoint show up on the 2.9 compass that would rock. I will investigate further on my end.

I do not think the maps should be renamed, there is a mutator (somone name it please, I forgot the name, something with x-maps or hmm my brain sucks :D ) where you are able to set up a maproation with different gametypes, so you could use dtas with the old tdm maps as well as with the new eas maps, but I am not sure how well this works, because I did not follow the process of this mutie.

BTW, for anyone who is interested, you DO NOT need to rename the EAS maps. Just add them directly to the map list in the INI file and they will run fine for TDM and will be run in Standoff mode without the EAS goals, etc.

Crowze you were right it works fine. Stupid me, I did not have enough players for DTAS to kick in. Duhh! :)

Also, Yurch, please let Crowze have a shot at this. I would love to get DTAS working on my server with the compass, etc. It would give some additional play to the existing EAS and TDM maps and some additional play options to INF.
