This map is based on my first (and slightly ****ty) map ever -- AS-INF-Gatehouse -- which I created in 2002 out of frustration at the number and quality of assault maps available for Infiltration (I notice things have changed slightly in that respect ;) ).

Understandably there was a fair amount of tidying up to be done, and I've now extended the playing area and added a huge amount more cover, compared to the original. I've also darkened the map to make it a real night time map; I recommend you give the attackers a black camo, which makes them bloody difficult to spot. Pack a flashlight if you want to take the tunnel way in to the gatehouse grounds (behind the attacker spawn).

Having playtested on GD3 (thanks Odie et al), it seems to work with a full server as well as with small numbers of people (I always thought the original map was a blast with 1v1 or 2v2).

#2 - note the helicopter which is summoned when the first objective is completed. It carries a searchlight which is directed at any players near the helicopter (doesn't work perfectly, but hey, it might not in real life either :) ), and circles around periodically.

#1 - this is the initial objective; killing the security system allows the attackers to enter the gatehouse (before that, only defenders can get in via keypads)

Very nice map FM, good fun to play online. I have to agree about the flashlight - you may know I got lost in the tunnels without one and had to drop a smoke for someone to see and come along to help ;). If this is a for-definite final version (or near enough), I'll get it up on RealMaps.

I must confess that I deliberately made it difficult to get through the tunnel without a flashlight (give you a reason for packing one for a change).

This just may turn out to be a favorate of mine. However, it will sux if everyone forgets a flash light. :eek: I *never* gave the flash light much thought, now I do. It is about time! :)

I'm not sure I was ever described as a cool kid, but I figured General was the best place to reach most people who would play maps, rather than just those who tinker about with them in Development :)

Any new mappage on the way, btw? G'wan... you know you want to... (on the basis that the map docs seem to have the same incubation period as 2.9 itself, and thus waiting for them is futile :) )

just been playing this map and wondered if anyone else has problems with the flashlight? I`ve tried the one on the P90 and the shotgun but they do not light up the areas they should do....is it a problem my end or has anyone else noticed this? my P90 works very well on other maps lighting up whichever direction you point it.

I changed the scaleglow of the plant meshes so that they only illuminate dimly with the flashlight on them (perhaps too dimly for your gamma setting); otherwise they light up far too much IMO. Also the ground/grass texture is quite dark and doesn't illuminate very well from a shallow angle. Walls in front of you (but not too close) light up better though.

Would that account for what you're seeing?

could be...best e.g. is the attackers spawn by the truck, if i switch f`light on I can light up squad members but if i turn towards the hedge you would think there was no f`light on atall...may be my settings...maybe someone else can offer another opinion? will give it a better check out tommorrow...beddie time now....

Maybe it is your settings. Are you in 16 bit or 32 bit colour?

sorted....dynamic lighting had been de-selected somehow...and that must be what governs whether you see a beam of light as in a flashlight .... all is now well again... :)
