    Long live the Roguelike!

Once upon a time there was a game called Rogue. It a turn-based computer role-playing game that featured an absurd difficulty and permanent death (i.e. it deleted your character's save file if you died). From this game the roguelike genre was born, and games like Nethack and more recently Desktop Dungeons and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. But it seems that these games are relatively inaccessible due to...whatever and most gamers ignore the Roguelike games.

Well, if you wanted an accessible rogue like, or are simply looking for a good action'ish role-playing game on the computer, Dungeons of Dredmor is up on sale for steam. Things it has:

    • Graphics! Most Roguelikes are either ASCII art or really low-res sprites; DoD is at least 16-bit graphics!
    • Easy to Play! Unlike some roguelikes with sprawling interfaces and a myriad of commands playing Dungeons of Dredmor is relatively easy. And...
    • Fun! Dungeons of Dredmor is fun. Fun varies between person to person.
    • Funny! There's a meat shield made of meat. You can wear traffic cones and buckets. There are mustache golems (origin of mustache is unclear). Lots of Munchkin'esque humor.
    • Hard! Get over-confident and this game will kill you and delete your save file (although if you are a wuss you can turn that off). There are plenty bad guys and meanies all wanting to beat your brains out and are capable of doing so. If you want a challenge, Dungeons of Dreadmor provides.

Anyways, it's available on Steam for $5. It's a steal. I recommend it.
