It's not Unreal, but it's something I've gotten requests for, so we've gone ahead and mirrored the Doom 3 final video for you here on BeyondUnreal FileWorks. It's about 40 mb, in .mov format, and does a decent job of showcasing the game, which is scheduled for official release on Tuesday, August 3rd. Enjoy!

That's because they want to show of their 'advanced' lighting-system.
Or is it because their system just can't handle more than a single lightsource ? ;)

I still think D3 is far too expensive for what it offers.

honestly, why do we have a Doom 3 video here?... I mean, people donate money to BU, just to waste bandwidth on Doom? Even if the download is from a sponser..

Oh well, not that anyone cares. :p ...

This is a one-off, and to my knowledge the only time we've ever done something like this. I hardly think 'wasting' 40MB of server space on one Doom 3 video is really an issue.

Yeah indeed, because you have to buy a hi-end PC in order to play it fluently too!

Doom 3
Price: $54.99

Alienware: Area51 ALX
Price: $5,575.00

Total: $5629.99

:y5:

and $5629.99/20h = $281.5 price/hour :lololol:

Expensive, huh ?

Conclusion: Doom 3 is made for rich namby-pamby boys! :fluffle:

:cake:
That's assuming Doom 3 has no multiplayer value or replayability.

It's no longer Doom, no 20 imps on the screen at once, or being overwhelmed in open areas at all. This is just Resident Evil in first person, with some decoration on top.

You realise that both Jay Wilbur and Mark Rein worked at id software right? And that Steven Polge (the unreal AI creator) was recognised by Epic because of his great multiplayer bots for quake 1?

It's a much more tightly knit community than you'd think. In some small way without id software Unreal and UT might not be the same as they are.

Hmm, Ironic how even in the video it actually didn't look perfectly smooth either, I think Id games have taken things a little beyond PERFECT playability, I mean the idea of having 4 imps on screen hurling fireballs in my direction is gonna be an instant frame rate hit on top of the initial environmental detail slowdowns. Someone mentioned Far Cry, I have to say that on my machine, I'm running that with all settings on medium with 1024*768 res and well, mostly smooth with a few bits that aren't but hey, my system is:
AMD Athlon 2800XP+
1024Mb DDR 333Mhz RAM
nVidia GeForce 5700 (425Mhz Core 500Mhz Memory - 61.77 Driver)
Sound Blaster Audigy
AOpen AK79D-400VN
It'll [SARCASM]run[/SARCASM] Doom 3, any idea's on how smooth?

The homosexuality is overwhelming

Wow, the homosexuality coming from most of the guys on this board is more frightening then id's masterpiece. A lot of you criticize the engine as not being able to handle more light sources or believe that is the reason why it is dark, but keep in mind the engine can do anything as long as the hardware power is there to support it. So it is not the engine that can't deliver, it is your systems. Doom 3 is very strong technology that is ahead of its time in terms of hardware, and thus is offered in a state that computers can handle. A dark atmospheric, freaky, and all around brilliant environment.

I was always a ut'er at heart, but today I' am ashamed of those of you who act gay and do not give respect where it is due.
