I do not like techno much

modern music seriously lacks melody. Take a way beat and speed and you got something that sounds hollow. Almost all "slow" songs I hear these days are boring.

Oh, well. That doesn't really have much to do with techno I guess. But most techno songs lack anything 'cept beat and loudness. I like the good old electronic musik from pre-techno times. And there are a few good techno songs. Prodigy is pretty high-standard for techno methinks.
But I feel the few good bits drown in a sea of noise.

PS: I hate rap. Blacks could really make good musik once without stea...covering old songs. (complaint caused by some black guy claiming it was just the way black ppl expressed themselves. I call it ****)

Yeah but those are only good because the original was good long before rap was invented. But there are a few not-too bad rap songs. But I like HipHop better. In fact, I like German HipHop.

what do you guys think of my songs tho?

Hmm... if I had to label the one I am just listening to, I'd call it techmetal :D kinda nice. I've certainly heard worse and ppl actually pay for that crap
I think you gotta something akin to melody in there, which is important to me. Ah, that was an Acid one methinks. I don't like the Ejay one I hear right now too much. Too much standard I'd call it. There is some nice background sound but it's drowned in the usual beat, and some sound effect sound like I heard them a thousand times before. To repetetive on the whole, sorry.

I like techno

I listen a LOT of music - and there's basically nothing wrong with these.

EJ1: Merely an experiment with different flander/wah-wah pedal effects and rhythmic variations. The melody consists of three notes, but that's just how this is in Techno !
EJ2: Starts up slowly - then You get this very steady 90BPS bass drum and some melody ... very steady rhythm.
EJ3: The start reminds me of some very spacey thing and I really enjoyed the first 5 seconds - then it became quite standard stuff...
EJ4: Somewhere around 2:20 this piece of music had an interesting part lasting 15 seconds ....

Well what should I say - after listening 4 of these - I would not classify them (except EJ1) as techno.
First of all, their tempo is too slow, 80BPM is not good for dancing, You would be better off by raising that somewhere near 120. It would be easier to make variations on that.
Techno is really NOT about melody, it's more about beat. So, the beat should be kept going ... but without making it monotonous

If You ask the best candidate from these, it is without any doubt EJ1.

Some VERY good Techno music (IMO):

U96 - Das boot (The entire CD)
2Unlimited - Workaholic - Twilight Zone and mabee some others
Usura - Open Your mind; The entire and only CD they've ever published
KLF - Their entire production
Snap - The madman's return =O)

And last but not least - Kraftwerk - the daddy of all techno music - Their entire production

of my pocket calculator ...

I left out a few because I have a bad memory and because I don't like Yello.

so what would you classify my songs as, varpu?

and also Ejay isnt a very good music making program for serious music making, but thats all i had at the time so i used it. but now i have acid pro and i like it a lot more. Ejay didnt have a big veriety of loops that it came with and i didnt want to buy more loops for it cause i didnt like the program very much. but now i have acid and im thinking about buying some loop cds, right now i have about 600 loops with some veriety. so anyway, more critisism from anyone please :)

What should I write in the label ?

Ambient beats.

How do You start up making these?

My Younger son, who writes HipHop with Cakewalk Metro, seems to first write the lyrics, then the five-note-melody and after that comes the beat with scratches and all.
Those loops You're talking about, are these readily recorded drum beat loops ?
If so, I would suggest trying to make the beats by Yourself - why? - because they are the heart of Techno music. And put some "errors" into those - they sound more lively if they are not that accurate, just some milliseconds off the clock here and there, You can't actually hear it but it sounds more natural.
Another thing, if You are keen in making music, I would strongly suggest using MIDI capable programs instead of the zillion or so trackers around. This helps going into serious, professional equipment in case that need ever asises.
If You have the money or know where to get a "cheap" version, Cakewalk Metro is the way to go.
Oh, sorry, the "Metro" is for Macintosh but You could use SONAR software instead. :)

the loops are already recorded but they aren't just drum beats, theres bass, fx, guitar, and much more.

I would make my own loops if i knew how etc and i dont have the hardware/software to do it atm.

Right now im just making songs for the fun of it. Im just finding sample loops and putting them together for entertainment. Im not looking to do this as a profession or anything, its just something to do and im not into it so much to go out and buy a ton of stuff to "do it right" i made a few songs and i was wondering what ppl thought of them :)

They sound good

Hmm.... You seem to have the right attitude on these. Making for fun is possibly the only way to do it. If done for money only, You will produce just more elevator muzak.

The music You made is not that bad at all - so have MORE fun !

PS. There seemed to be a trial version of this SONAR software ... I dunno if they have crippled it too much so I can't recommend the download. The company is famous of their quality software though.

Just checked it out. It is a fully working version but it times out in 30 days.
The download page is here.

Passing by the e-mail information form

Oh, and to pass by the e-mail thing, You could try to get the files directly from their FTP server.

And; I could not resist - one should never be serious with this music. One sample that made me laugh. The stage show was hilarious with a LARGE bass drum that the guy was hitting with a wooden mallet ! Most swedish readers will regognize the band immediately !

'cept 'em bein' techno of course :p

No, that's the problem of techno. Besides, I know a few songs with at least 4 notes :p But of course a song can sound good with 3 notes. But most techno songs just don't.

YOu only mention the EJs, but I got AP1 and 2 and those actually much better IMO. Not exactly what you call techno either, but I'm not a great one for terms.

That's why techno is crap. Bull****. Annoying Loud Noise.

Hmm... must be in a pleasant mood; the EJs don't sound too bad to me. I agree iwth Vapu'S verdict in general but I don't like the second half of EJ1, so I prefer EJ2. EJ4 becomnes very good in the last minute.
Whatever is is, it isn't bad.

awesome, esp. the very song  although the original is kewl also!
This song also has a melody kin. I don't just talk about the main theme, but the whole style is melodious.

the next 4 I don't know

Kraftwerk  I listened to 'em before I ever heard the word techno! When I heard the term techno applied to electronic music, a new sound also appeard; this was the modern techno style I do not like much. If only the best 50 songs were ever published it might actually be a decent music style. But as it is I only hear loud noises and junkies claiming they cannot live 'cept on a Rave...

Kraftwerk is also an example of how techno isn't techno. I'd prefer to call it electronic music. They are actually pre-techno. The good old times.

BTW:
Ich bin der Musikant
mit Taschenrechner in der Hand ...

Allow me to add:

The Prodigy - Music For The Jilted Generation
a few of good songs, and I'll always love No Good.

Andora - Bladerunner

this is not Techno. this is mid 90's EuroCheese at it's most pungent, all that's missing is Dr Alban and Haddaway.

Real Techno has it's moments but as a genre it lacks the range & energy of D&B :)
