    It's here

To the author: work on your map. As I said the flame effect looks pretty cool, maybe someday you could make a themed map with it, set in Hell or something like that. :) Right now though it's not super.

And yet we scratch our heads wondering why the community is so small.

...and yeah I see the tag. Cute.

    :)

    I've already played it
It doesn't perform well as a DM.
Must not put him down too much. There has been some time spent on it (placing all those little skulls must have taken a while). And at least it's not a spam box.

Reminds me of [thread=167133]this thread[/thread]. That one was really hilarious. By the way, does someone have that map saved? I lost it years ago.

Some of you really have nothing better to do than pile on people, do you.

Yeah some people here can be a little rough at times, but when the author 1) doesn't provide any info aside from a download link and a really bad screenshot (which was super blurry and didn't even look like a regular screenshot), and 2) gets mad and insults everyone because people posted honest reactions to the incredibly sparse information provided (for what looks like an incredibly bad map) instead of having the dignity to say "hey, this may not be good but I'm still learning; any advice?" or something like that, you can't really have many other outcomes. That sentence was way too long.

Posters here could be a little more forgiving, but mappers need to put more effort into explaining what they are trying to do and what kind of feedback they want. A bad map is a bad map, but if the author puts the effort into it and shows they are open to work with people's comments, then things go over a whole lot smoother for everyone. When people have tantrums like this then these threads turn into what you see here.

I strongly doubt that a few overzealous commentators posting in a handful of immature map authors' threads are the reason UT3's community is small. Look at all the successful map releases; there's dozens of them, and more pop up every day! It's easy to point fingers, but UT3's community's size has a lot more to do with how the game was at its initial launch than how a few people on some message boards are behaving today.

Waffnuffly, naturally I don't agree with the insult of course. What would be ideal is a mapper posting his work fully detailed, people giving constructive (and that can come across as harsh sometimes indeed) feedback, and the mapper accepting these comments and willing to improve his/her creations. But thats an Utopia I know.

It's just that some people are always eager to jump on the bandwagon and pile, no matter what. Be it here, OT or whatever forum. Really sad.

Oh and btw, glad to see you hang around on Buf once more.
