the first pic in the second link looks funnny,,, wtf is that?? me blurry eyes arent just so you see.

please go here:

and read this bizz's tuitorials on lighting... his lights are amazing and yours will be too after picking up some pointers from the man! be sure to read closely as it can be confusing at times...

lighting has taken me the longest to grasp, its tricky to get it looking right but daveyd00d will guide the way.

i have a feeling your DM map will rule, please give it the same TLC you gave the CTF map and we'll be smooth sailing into 1337ville!

looks promising. but needs more "living" textures or a better lighting. Take Rigors advice but dont take davids tuts word for word. read them to get an idea how to use lighting!

You need a good grasp of both IMHO.

You are 100% correct. A grasp of both is essential to make great maps that make you say "Wow!".

I liked the Lode tutorial because it was so technical.
It explained much about using the surfaces in conjunction with
the lighting to get the desired affect.
Most lighting tutorials just give you a few examples
and tell nothing of using the surfaces being lit.

All in all, ... I'd say that the more tutorials you absorb the better. :D
