    Hello everyone, I'm back. After a short break I'm back and working on a new DM map for Ut2k4. I'll have some screenshots and a pre-alpha build up for you all to dink around in if you so choose. Weeeeeeee.....

    So as not to kill anyone's slow connection, I'm going to just post links to the images.

    Here's a link to download the latest build, it never changes and will most likely be updated once every couple days. This is mostly just for the people that want to see how it progresses. It isn't optimized, nor is it any indication of the final product. Comes with an original music track, of course, which is also still in the works, and some original static meshes are going to make their way in there too. That being said, here's the link:

    I know its only a pre pre alfa. Am looking forward to see how you fill

    The genmokai/forest theme seems a bit overused. Why not use something like tech or junkyard rusted objects in your forest? Some interesting translucent moon lightboxes and/or leaf emitters might spice things up a bit. If you do go with the genmokai ramp things, how about a few shrooms from dawn added in?

    Funny, I haven't really seen any maps really use it, but maybe that's just me. Nevertheless, it's still very early in development so who knows what it'll end up being. Plus, how many fanasty setting forests have metal all over the place ;)

    Well it just seems that nearly all of the natural, forest settings use those bridges, like DM-TokaraForest, DM-Antalus, DOM-Renascent, DOM-SepukkuGorge (and those are just the official maps), then there are most definitely custom maps using those meshes with a forest atmosphere like DM-Tree-Of-Ages(and I'm sure there are more but I don't have the time to go search for all of them and that's all I remember the name of off the top of my head). EDIT: found two more - CTF-Sahagin and CTF-ForestofGiants.

    Exactly - something original. Why not an egyptian tomb in a forest? Or an underwater forest? Or a high-tech futuristic city built into the treetops (as opposed to the ancient huts that so many people go for)? Originality is one of the biggest things a map can have under its belt.

    To make such things work, all you'd need is a simple backstory in the map description to explain the new theme. "(Planetname) is a luscious forest planet with astounding beauty. A group of Hellions fleeing from the law landed in this particular section of the planet and, after being accustomed to more squalid living conditions, decided to trash things up a bit. Now the Hellions who lived here have moved on, and what they once called home is now one of Liandri's most bloody, unwelcoming arenas."

    lol, I thought that my winking would leave you to believe that it was a joke. Those are only acting as place holders until I finish the custom static meshes I'm working on, so no worries. This isn't going to just be another reproduction of the same. I'm going to add a small underground cavern/cove thing at some point, but right now I'm just working on things little by little when I find the time. I do appriciate your thoughts though :)

    Go ahead though, I like seeing how other people visualize ideas :0)

    Besides ... the two maps I am working on I started like a month or two ago, and they haven't changed much. ;0p

    The map is coming along nicely. The open area is slowly being turned into a half built base of operations for a facility of some sort. At the same time I'm also working on optimizations, so I've almost got all my anti-portals to a point where nothing is being rendered except exactly what you see. Been quite a pain, but it'll be worth it when I fill the forest up with a lot of detail :) I might possibly put up a screenshot, but I rather like keeping it a secret for a little while longer until I'm happy with how it's all going

    In an ironic twist of fate, dun dun dun, I've decided to put the map on hold. After a lot of consideration I've decided I don't like where the map has been heading the last few builds, so until I can think of another way to take it, I'm just going to let it sit. I am however, working on a new map. Unlike my most recent maps, this one will be indoors and will be made comepletely from my own SM's, and possibly textures as well. I've come to realize that if I'm going to get anywhere I need to start creating my own content with my own ideas and how I want to use them, and will give me a chance to work on my modeling skills as well as everything else. End Rant..
