I know we've been over the fact that f1 doesn't always reflect true ping and that f6 is more accurate, but how much does this vary from player to player - if at all.

i know lately i play with f6 constantly on. my ping spikes are so bad that i actually use that to determine when i can and can't use hitscan weapons.

anyway, i've played matches where i've not seen a ping below 300 the whole game, and at the end of the match, when the scores show up, it shows my freakin ping at like 145 or something!!

is the difference between the two measurements off by this much for everybody?

    MINE ARE!!!

I always got the impression is that when you hit F1, it's taking a snap shot at that point in time. I'm probably wrong...It wouldn't be the first time...

To get an accurate view, I use F6, but I rarely keep it on because it blocks the text box...

I always thought my pings were in the low 200's, but then I checked on ngstats, and my average was nearly 100ms higher...

    What r ya to do...56k's suck. :(

Yeah these two measurements are always off. Sometimes not considerably, but almost always by 50ms or more. I really have no idea as to why, but that's the way it is.

Umm....I always thought F1 was more accurate.
Hell, I've done the ocmparison. When I have a 40 ping, it FEELS like a 40 ping. When I press F6, it says 90. I do know the difference during gameplay between a 90 and 40 ping

Packetloss on the other hand is less accurate with F1
F6 tells you the best PL #

    Bah, they both suck.

I just time the packets with my stopwatch.

I leave F6 on a lot during games. I do dislike the fact that it blocks the text box. :(

But F1 jumps around so much (not to mention it is very obstructive) I can't trust that to see my ping, ping spikes, PL whatever, whereas F6 is always there so I can immediatly tell what is wrong.

When I am looking at F6 I want to make sure I have no PL, and just get an idea of where my ping is. If F1 shows a ping of 40, then F6 shows 100 or so. And I know what a 100 ping in F6 feels like, so F6 is a good indicator of what the game is going to be like. When I see a 100 ping or less in F6 I know I'm pinging awesome. And every other ping either above or below 100 is going to increase or decrese playability at a constant rate.

So my adivce is just look at F6 a lot, find out what a good ping is for you, and then look for servers where you can get pings like that. Don't worry about the disparity, which one is correct is irrelevant.

You need to FEEL your ping like DA mentioned. :)

Actually, no, which makes my stopwatch timing even more inaccurate :)

On my old 56K modem, F6 was more acurate, showing 350-600, and F1 was showing 320-450. And it was clear while playing that F6 was the more acurate.

However, on my new modem, F1 seems the more acurate, showing 150-220, while F6 says 200-350. And I can assure you I am NOT pinging 300:)

    Weird.

I may be wrong but I always thought that the F1 ping was a pure pc to server ping while the F6 ping included the latency of the game itself (this is the game state rendered on your screen compared to the server game state).

I have a low end system (Cellery 400 & TNT1) and yes UT is hardly a speed demon on it. I see a big difference between F1 and F6. On my friends UberP3 rig the difference is much smaller.

    hmmm,
    that's odd astrophel.

    i'm on an athlon 850, 256mb, geforce2 32mbddr, so i'm fairly sure my comp. isn't a weak point.

    interesting though.
