When I play online I experience that when i pull the trigger the shot goes off half a second or so later, and the shot seems to come from a place above my left shoulder.
Needless to say this makes it very difficult to participate.
Anyone has any ideas what causes this and what I can do to fix it?

If you are connected to a server hosted in another country than your own, you will probably experience some lag (a delay in shooting in this case). It takes time to send the information back and forth.

The closer the server is to you, the less lag you will get. It's pretty common in online games.

Hi,

OK, thanks for the info.
Could you tell me what this "ping" number stands for?

The ping is the time it takes til the server knows you pressed fire on your computer. The higher your ping is, the longer it will take for the server to know that you shot somebody. So it will look delayed if your ping is high. You can press F6 ingame to see your ping.

Thanks for the reply!
So when I get a list of available game servers I should join one with a low ping number?
Also, what are "mutators"?
And finally; when the list of available servers comes up, in the number of players column one could see a number like 1+8/24. I guess 24 is the maximum number of players allowed but what about 1+8?

Yes, generally servers with low ping should be prefered. Unfortunately sometimes the only populated servers have high ping.

Mutators are extra files that change aspects of the game. Like replace weapons, add new gameplay mechanics and stuff like that.

1+8/24 means 1 human, 8 bots and 24 is the max number of players that can join the server.
