dedicated server vs "start game"

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

if you want to have some mp fun in unreal, you can choose between "Join game" "Start game" and "launch a dedicated server".
Well, I understand the first and the last of those three option, but what does the second option? I´ve tried it before. It´s like a normal mp game, but for some reason nobody seems to be joining.
If you want to "start" a mp game, doesn´t that already make you the server?

Fuzzy..

Presumably the middle option starts a "listen server" where you can play yourself. People tend to avoid listen servers because the server player has a ping of 0 and they often tend to perform badly too.

Is your server listed on the ingame browser? If it is not you need to go into the advanced options and change the setting for it to true, it is something like DoUplink under networking/master server but I have never done it so someone may correct me.

Let me know a time and I will let you frag me a few times. My email address is listed above.

:)
