Ok, since I typed up a big long peaceful reply to the thread and didn't finish before it locked, but I copied it into the clipboard so I thought I'd get my 2 cents in... I can't seem to lock this one even though it's mine so if any administrators want to that's fine with me.

Just a few observations, please don't anybody take anything personally, if anybody disagrees or thinks this thread was different that's fine, I just tell it like I see it (and I got one dead eye so just take it all with a grain of salt /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif -just trying to help, turn off the flame throwers):

1- Ignoring someone might sound all fine and good but I don't think it would work out that way, I think most ppl (including me) would want to have some sort of conclusion, when people interact someone almost always says something the other person didn't know or never thought about, and the conversation usually ends very peacefully, even if Warren (aka "the final word") has to forcefully end it peacefully. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

2- It seems to me that threads with several seperate ideas go nowhere, fast. It's just too much to respond to, sometimes even to read (especially when most or all have been suggested before)... and should someone answer to all of them he could get replys back for all or most of them, and sooner or later people stop using the numbers altogether and you haven't the slightest idea who's talking about what and you just hit the damn back button. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The ideas that do the most impact are the ones that take up a whole thread, maybe with a few sub-ideas to support the main idea. But I will give my quick rundown of the topic post...

Most of the ideas have suggested before, many have been done before, most would be used very rarely, some would screw with the gameplay, many would be really up to the mapper, most would be maximum deposit with minimum withdraw (INF team's work for reality/fun in the game), and ALL fall into at least one of those categories, most 2 or more. That is why Shakken got a little edgy, he's got better things to do than pick apart each idea.

IMHO this would have ended up alot better had the best idea be singled out and ran with... had the thread been about making doors (some unlocked, some locked, others locked from one side) for mappers to use, that can be opened by approaching them or breached with a shotgun slug or something similar, it would be much easier to explain the idea, to debate it, to give feedback, or to simply say "we will think about it/already are thinking about it/already thought about it and decided against it".

I agree

And here are my final thoughts on the subject

People, believe it or not, come here to have fun, and not generally to make trouble. So just LET them. As long as they don't break the rules laid forth, as Warren has stated.

And Gringle, let's face it, your last sentence was clearly "stop making suggestions". The fact that you think that saying that is graciously holding out the olive branch baffles me. Nevertheless, our personalities obviously clash. Let me warn you, that I like most of the people who like to give suggestions, like to give suggestions! We are not here to give trouble - we just like to express ourselves. If you *really* want to make peace, and hate any of my ideas, just simply respond like Lost did. To the point.

The only reason why some of my threads get blown out of proportion - is simply because people like yourself choose to make it so. Think about it. It's obviously impossible for me to trash myself. And look at my previous threads where people disagreed with them - did I react in anger? My last sorry thread should have ended with Lost, who just calmly informed me that all those previous ideas were shot down before. Simple isn't it?

cheers,
AJY

ps. to those posters who insist that I should just accept that people don't like my ideas: what planet have you come from? I thought I made it very clear, that I DON'T CARE if people don't like my ideas! How on earth can you come up with such responses? Can you see that it is not ME that is causing trouble, but people who misunderstand, misjudge and respond aggresively? I just had a problem with people discouraging people from contributing ideas! I said that I think, THREE TIMES, and STILL someone responds that I should accept that people don't like my ideas - DUH! DUH DUH DUH! I hope I make myself clear this time.

no...

Well, I'm sorry you saw my last sentence as a command, when it in fact was a suggestion in itself. I just thought we could avoid controversy that way. Whatever, though. I was indeed extending the olive branch, and with that said, if we could bury the hatchet, I would like that much. If not, then screw you. Just kidding.

PS: As a way of showing I'm sorry, give me a mapping idea that doesn't include scripting and I'll do it for ya /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Hope you believe me that I'm sorry now.

Wow.

Wow.. thanks Gringle! I apologise too for misunderstanding you.

I do in fact have an idea.

I played a game once, where the idea was to infiltrate a missile base (could be anything though), lay a bomb, and get OUT of the base before the base blew up. The thing is that the timer really starts after the bomb is ticking - say 1 minute to exit the base. Assault is a good idea, and sometimes it's strange for the game to just end when you destroy something. It'd be nice for the game to end AFTER you escape!

I suppose it could also end like the Goldeneye intro, when he jumps off the cliff... halfway falling the announcer says "CONGRATULATIONS".. that would also be an exhilarating ending.

Again, I must confess I don't know how difficult those suggestions might be.

cheers!

I will do my very best. If you'd like to record the "congratulations" .wav and send it to me, that's cool too. I'll keep you updated, and I'm glad we're cool now. And if any one of you punks posts an "Awwww" or something, I will beat your face in with a cinder block.

Awwww...

I simply could not resist! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Always good to see peace being made. Though I do regret one thing. I was going to suggest an INF gun duel to settle this spat between you two. A "high noon at the O.K. Corral". Would have been fun...

errr...

I personally do NOT want the announcer to say "congratulations" - I was just referring to the bit, where the round is finished, everything freezes and the stats are showing for awhile before the next round. The announcer says something at the end - I thought it was "congratulations" but I can't remember.

If you jump off a cliff, halfway falling, and then the round ends - that would be an exhilarating ending (that's what I meant). As it is, the AS maps kind of fizzle abruptly at the end - you know what I mean. Jumping off a cliff would be an ending worth playing for IMHO!

Actually I'd love to duke it out - that would be the best way to handle disputes! However, like I said I can't play internet games because lag kills me - and so would you.

cheers,
AJY

This is pushing the limits of the Assault structure but I'll see what I can do...the game is mostly time based. Anyways, I'll do my best.

Here's the ultimate suggestion to end all suggestions!

But before I get to that - if it's too difficult, just pretend the bomb timer is part of the AS timer?? But I think the jumping off the cliff is the more fun part!

Okay here it is. v2.8 isn't even released yet, and you can bet your MP5 there's going to be a few screaming matches when it does! (and future versions of course).

Solution? Infiltration should set a dedicated high-band width Dueling server. Purely for 1 on 1 matches. Losers concede total and utter defeat - no matter how logical his arguments may be! Aaaahhh.. the good ol days! - hey maybe that can be a gamemode - Duel!

cheers,
AJ

Hey Gringle!

M9s at 12 paces? I'm game. But how about we wait until INF 2.8? I happen to think the M9 currently is INF's weakest point. 2.8 will come w/ a new & improved M9, plus the Desert Eagle & a couple other cool pistols. And you'll have to stand still to aim effectively, like in real life. That desert city map that will come w/ 2.8 will be an ideal setting too. A duel will be cool then!

So how about it? You want a real dispute to motivate it? How about this:

Your [insert pet] has fleas and stinks to high heaven!! /infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

There. Hope that does it. You game?

ajy's idea...

Heh, just saw your post after I had posted the above. I think a dueling game mode is a great idea! You could have the dedicated dueling server handle multiple players, where the non-dueling players serve as adjudicators. When the dueling pair conclude their duel, another pair of players can pick up guns and have their duel. And so forth. Maybe we could even have a ladder system, and find out who's the top gun-slinger!

We may be on to something here...

Something like this was on the drawing board a while back, like Rocket Arena meets Infiltration meets Standoff meets 1 on 1. I hope they bring it back or something.

You're on, Alpha. As for ajy, it would have to start RIGHT after the bomb was planted. i.e.: you spawn and the bomb is in front of you. I'm pretty sure I can pull off the jumping off the dam/cliff your preference. I really got to get this map I'm working on released but after that I'll try your idea.

HOLY COW!

I think the suggestions forum has brought the entire community closer together. I'm sorry I missed it all. After reading through it, I'm a roller coaster of emotions right now. I think I might cry. Someone please hold me.
