Damn ...kinda wishing I read this forum section first before buying UT3 on Steam :( I bought DNF the day it came out and multiplayer was such an epic flop it left me jonesing for a good shooter. So I figured I'd buy UT3 tonight for the helluva it. Somewhat expected the game to still be active online but it doesn't appear to be.

At least with UT3 and MapMixer you can have yourself a hell of a time against uneven bot teams in TDM. 1v10 or 1v12 (or less on small maps) is way more fun than you'd expect, and pretty tough too. There's also a lot of great community maps, such as the CBP3 and HOLP packs, not to mention all the stuff poured into Content Releases. There's also some hilariously good mods like Gibalicious, BattleRPG, Excessive Overkill and others. It's by no means an online game now, but it's still fun offline with the right stuff.

Finally got it installed this morning. Yeah the bot matches are good but I was able to find a server that had a few humans in TDM earlier ...mixed with a few bots but it was still fun. Great graphics and I'm glad they somewhat nerfed dodging.

I didn't follow it as much as I used to. I loved the entire Unreal series and definately remembered how fun it was to frag someone in Unreal. I got really hooked when UT99 came out. Then I bought UT2003 ....eh I loved the mods but the excessive dodge key and the physics were different. So when I heard about UT3, all I knew about it was they went back to the UT99 physics and nerfed the dodge key a bit.

....and then I became a World of Warcraft junkie and every game I owned collected dust or was uninstalled for about 3-4 years, gained 20 pounds, have an ulcer *and* even passed a kidney stone. Thanks Blizzard! :2thumb:

At any rate I'm finally burnt out of WoW and am slowly getting back into online racing and fraggin' oh yeah and losing weight. I was somewhat surprised to see UT3 not as active in comparision to the longevity of UT24K though.
