Custom Sound help (compiling and the like)

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I need help with some custom audio I'm recording. Just a few questions.

Question 1: When initially recording a sound, can I just use the Sound Recorder program? Do i need a specific recording program to be compatible with UT2k4?

Question 2: How do I import sounds into Unreal? I know it needs to be a .uax file (or something like that) and then I need to compile it (or something like that), but can I just change the file name to a .uax file (i.e. If I recorded something called noise.wmv, can I rename it to noise.uax to be compatible...after the whole compiling thing?).

Question 3: How do I do the compiling thing? I know I gotta use the UCC thing (or something like that).

Thanks a lot y'all. :)

To import sounds, open the sound browser (in the top icon bar) in UnrealEd and click File > Import. You can import .wav files - there are some restrictions like the file path can't have any spaces and the file must be a certain type of wav. I recommend you compress the wav to 8-bit mono before importing, it makes the file a lot smaller and you shouldn't lose too much quality.

Enter the package name of the new package you want to make, or MyLevel if you want to embed it in a map. The group name is optional - you can leave it blank, and enter a name for the sound then press ok. You can import mulitple .wav files into the same sound package.

If you import sounds to the MyLevel package you don't need to save it as a .uax file, just save the map. Otherwise click save to make a .uax file.

This is a good sound recording program: http://www.goldwave.com/

Good luck :)
