I think it's better off that coop-like gametype isn't shipping with the game, so as to not take the artist's and coder's attention off of the character models, weapons, vehicles, and maps. If there was a coop shipped with the game it would be badly done, like INV is.

I think this is leaving the doors open for enthusiastic modders to make a really well-done coop gametype, with maps specifically made for coop and more quality content. INV just felt like they were trying to just get it finished, without making it the best coop experience possible, which is good, because if they spent more time making INV, the quality of other gametypes or othre aspects of the game may have suffered because of it.

I really like the coop element. That is why I play trial servers and coop trick jump.

Very good point, same goes with Half-Life 1. Co-Op wasn't shipped with it, but some decent guys created a very cool mod called "Sven Co-Op" for it, and I'm telling you it's well fun to play :D

But eh, could you have imagined Co-op being shipped with Half-life? Would've taken too much time, I suppose. I mean, it demands certrain dramatic changes to the gameplay, doesn't it? Half life single player doesn't really cater to co-op play, that much, doesn't it?

It's been a while, but from what I can remember it .. couldn't have been easy BUT indeed that's some fine work they did with Svencoop

Co-op is an overlooked gametype sometimes. Shame.

Maybe without INV there will be more of a community desire and support for a co-op mod. The gap between visual quality in ut07 and ol' unreal will be even greater, so unreal gamers will no longer be satisfied with going several games back in the series just to play Unreal-based co-op.

If not, we can still play the Conquest maps with bot controlled turrets co-op style. :D

I'll agree with that one. Co- op is IMO a great, low- pressure way for new players to break into online play.
Low pressure?

You should see some of the INV server settings. INSANE.

If UnrealED works on Macs like they claimed it too in the new Engine, I might have to break into modding this way. That is, after learning how to mod.

This type of game doesn't lend itself too well to co-op. I mean, they could do it... but would anyone care? Why spend time blasting bots online?

I'm sure we'll see some sort of INV mod, so at least there's that to look forward to after UT2007 is released.

Now... Unreal 3... better have co-op! ;)

What he means is, you don't have to start fighting against another human (which adds a lot more pressure), but the AI. That's a world of difference, no matter how fast and challenging any co-op game might/can/could be.

And I've played a similar mod for UT. Arcade. I let 12 monsters spawn every 30 seconds. Groups of skaarj, krall, brutes, behemoths (no titans, warlords or queens not possible on those maps). Yes, it was hectic. Yes, it was insane.

But low pressure compared to the other online challenges.

It's good for new people, to get familiar with how the game works, chat with other players get to know the weapons etc...

To break ze ice ^_^

Under Articstronghold's bridge
Go Buy Serious Sam II for co-op (You will piss your pants laughing).

I agree that coop is overlooked and I would like to see it in UT2007 but I dont think EPIC has the time or impulse for such a thing

Yep, you nailed it.

INV was a bonuspack game in UT03, maybe they'll go that route again. I'm not holding my breath, but maybe.
Problem is the effort to make new monsters (U1 monsters just won't cut it this time 'round) in contrast to the amount of people that would enjoy said monsters. I'd love it , but xx>-UTG4m3RPWN*-<xx might prefer to stick with plain ol' DM and ONS  .

I really like the fact that monsters were part of the UT package. So many interesting things have been done, due to this clever decision.

It's fun like hell that you can summon monsters just like that in a deathmatch game, that you can make them become part of a map in progress (deathmatch, ctf, assault, jailbreak whatever), that there are monster mods such as monstermadness etc..

It gave UT an interesting extra. Heh, makes me think.. what Quake arena would've been like if you could've summoned the strogg or Quake baddies :O)

I wish that some of all the talented mappers out there teamed up and remade Unreal COOP with the Unreal3 engine.

Imagine walking through the ship gathering all sorts of stuff and then meet the rest of the survivors (4-5?) outside Vortex Rikers.

Visiting all the familiar places (with some changes to make it a COOP challenge) all in UE3 glory.
A true Day/Night cycle.
Puzzles that REQUIRE a team to solve.
Massive INV like fights.
Krall and skaarj etc looking less cartoony but more "Locustlike", deadly, freightening.

Its 39 missions that could be divided in lets say 8 chapters?
Releasing one chapter first to see if people liked it and then releasing one every 3-4 Months.
Well i can dream cant i? :D
Hell, i would even pay for that!
