Time-lapse picture of 'Cone of Fire' from an AC130U gunship

The gunship banks and rotates about the target point and fire control and gunners aquire and fire on targets. The modern day gunship has a 25mm Gatling gun, a 40mm and a 105 mm cannon with fire control. Radar can track and display the impact of the 40 and 105mm projectiles to increase accuracy. It can target accurately at night and through all types of weather. It can fire on two separate targets 1 kilometer distance from each other. The gunship is called SPOOKY and the Cone of Fire seen and heard when it is firing is referred to as the Dragons Breath.

It's a great big cone of red construction paper to hold those Taliban bastards until we can drop bigger bombs on 'em.

That's not an AC-130's fire, that's an older AC-47 "Spooky", which is much more lightly armed, with three 7.62mm Miniguns.

And yes, the red streaks are tracer bullets, one in ten IIRC. Nasty.

does anyone know where the guns are located in the C-130 gunship? especially that 105mm? is that even effective?

All weapons are in the fuselage, fixed to fire out of the left side. They are on computer-guided swivel mounts.

The 105mm howitzer proved highly effective in Vietnam for blasting point targets to smithereens from beyond the effective range of the enemy's heavy AA guns.

How can you tell it's an AC-47?

Because I recognize that photo, and because the pattern of fire is consistent with the weapons of a AC-47, namely a bank of fixed Miniguns.

The width and symmetry of the pattern indicates that multiple identical weapons are being fired; the AC-130U's armament is a 25mm Gatling gun, a 40mm Bofors cannon, and a 105mm howitzer, which wouldn't create a perfectly even pattern like that.
