I have a question, and it may sound stupid, but I've never heard an answer for this before .... Is it better to set your PC on your desk or on the floor under your desk ? Where would you be less likely to accumulate dust and be more likely to keep it cool (those Voodoo3 3000s really heat up)... I'm serious yall. If anyone has any wisdom please share! Thanx!!

Well......mine is under the desk to save room on my desktop.....never really thought about the heat and dust thing till you mentioned it.
Come to think of it those Voodoo 3000 really do heat up. One of my mates machines broke down and when he opened the case he found that the IDE cable had been lying on top of the Voodoo and it had burned part of the way through it!

Sorry to give ya something new to worry "bout. I've always had mine on the desk until my desk recently ran out of room. One thing you might want to consider for the V3 - a slot fan. I've got one installed in the slot just above my V3 so it pulls the heat right off the card and throws it out the case. The slot fans are supposed to decrease the heat in your case by 20 to 30 degrees.

I didn't bother with a fan cause there isn't enough room between the cards. I glued a heat sink onto it instead

If you're really worried about heat, somewhere low, and open to air (and well ventilated) is the best place. However, well ventilated means more opportunites for dust to get it. But you could also blow excess dust off/out of the computer with one of those compressed air cans, a regular air compressor, or a vaccuum cleaner that reverses, if you have one.

Hell yeah those Voodoo3 cards get hot baby! Throw a 486 processor fan (get one from radio chack or something). I had to rearrange some of the cards in one of my systems to get the fan to fit.

In my new system I have a Voodoo3 3500, and it gets mucho calor too. One thing I noticed is that the way my case/motherboard is setup, it makes the heatsink on the 3500 face down. Doesnt this defeat the purpose? Heat rises, so if the fins of the thing are facing down wouldnt this make it harder for the heat to dissipate? When I was helping my friend install car stereo's before, he said that you should always try to keep the amp so that the fins face up, because this makes coolng more efficient. So it seems strange that they would design the case/motherboard so that it sits like that.

If you are really freakn paranoid you could create some sort of sealed enclosure around your PC and run your air conditioner straight in there. Of course you would have figure out a way to prevent condensation from building up inside. They actually do have something like this already. www.kryotech.com I think.

If your like me you are opening the case once a week to put somthing new in anyway.I suggest a nice full size tower with a good 300w power supply and add fans. Whatever your rear power supply vent does make the rear fans do that and the front fans the opposite. In other words if the rear fan is blowing the air in the case out let the fans in the front pull air in.

I keep my computer packed in dry ice. When I want people to think I'm developing some mysterious project I put a few drops of water on it and - wha la! - instant mysterious fog. Add to those dank dark UT levels too!
