Just wanted to inform you about our latest work regarding DA2.

We are approaching beta status - 1 month left.

Defence Alliance 2 - Community Update

da2logo.jpg
Team Status - Plans
The DA2 team has lost many 'oldskool' team members but that didn't push us back not even a tiny bit to continue our work. We have new members like Spec, Acumen, Laber and Zeh plus some vets like Xealous, Dante and our work still goes on.

DA2 is reaching beta status and its by far a huge step comparing to DA:UT. Mappers can do insanely good maps with a huge war feel in the environment.

We will be releasing DA2 few days before August 21st - Phase 4 Deadline to give a chance for the community to get to know DA2. We must inform you that DA2 had a major features cut due to limit of time. That does not mean that we wont include everything we wanted. We will, of course, continue DA2 work after submission and we will include a mass of features.

DA2 will probably include 2 complete maps. The number is not that big and at first it might not seem a good motivation to play DA2. I can assure you that the maps are ton of fun and not linear as they were in DA:UT. The random factor has been increased and hence the replay one too.

Offline Play will also exist in DA2. You may load a map and play with defensive bots. Be aware of sending them some [ALL] commands using your radio to guide them around. They will defend key points, shoot incoming alien pods, throw grenades and of course finish off enemy aliens.

Artwork Progress

We are also very proud to announce that our models list is now complete and all thats left is to get them ready to punch them ingame.

Alien Dropship - Not skinned

Alien Pod- Not skinned - Used to bring down aliens from alien sky You can shoot them down.

Maps Progress

Code Progress

Our features list has been closed for a while now, that means we do not add anything new, we just tweak what we have and we make sure good functionality exists.

Here are some DA2 Beta 1 Features

- Alien Artillery, bring down chaos to defenders
- Reinforcements, human dropships land from the air to help the fight.
- Advanced objective system. Create unique maps with multiple paths and ways for the enemy to win you or win yourself.
- Advanced wave system. Spawn the enemy in various innovative ways to surprise the defenders and overwhelm them as much as you can.
- 15 custom effects for your choice as well as PlanetBombardment which will show space fights in your skybox to increase the adrenaline.
- Stationary DFA (Death From Above) Turret, mow down your enemy with this toy.
- Custom DA2 actor icons to help the mapper setup his map easily
- Jungle, Arctic, Urban, Desert camo available for dewfenders to fit all maps.

And more...

If everything goes well we will be ready in a month. If not we will not participate MSU Phase 4 but we will release DA2 a bit later.

that's the right attitude :D

This mod will be sooo amazing, once it has the planned features implented. You just need to get away from this thought of this first release being anythign near to a final release. 2 maps ain't much, but you don't know how much can happen during development.
And btw.
Durbacher Weißherbst is tasty !

Yeah Macuz, your right! I hope someone remakes those maps for DA][ :)

If you still need a beta / intial server host I recently got a nippy machine so I can host a dedicated server for a while - and YES this is a crap attempt to get a pre-release version, but I am serious about hosting the dedicated machine.

Any pre-release SDK's for making maps? Might aid the map development a bit.

Can you give us a rundown of features? Eg is it PvP etc, what the hud will look like, map sizes etc :)

You cant have it both ways. I'm gonna make it plain now - if you rush DA][ I will not download it. I'l save my bandwidth for a quality released mod, not a time released one.

Just finish it properly, who cares about MSU. Original DA wasnt popular just because it was entered for MSU (no smartass comments about there not being MSU back then)

What part of the words "BETA" don't you seem to understand? You seem to think what we plan on releasing it going to be rushed and final - it isn't. We plan on supporting DA2 for a very long time, and are going to continually add new things, just because we aren't going to have everything in the first beta, does't mean you need to try and play it like we're rushing just for MSU. :p

That just can't be said. That's like asking the Duke Nukem guys when they will release their baby. You'll get the same stupid answer "When it's done" all the time.
I don't know why you guys seem to feel that the DA mod members are something like obligated or owe you something. This is still a freetime and non-commercial project. When those guys feel like they don't want to continue working on this, fine. You can't go to the court for that.
Nobody knows what the future will bring cause nobody is entitled to anything. We'll see.

@Eizo:
What is happening, dude. Nobody wanted to harm you. Why are you just randomly attacking mod members o_O
Spec is even Co-Leader now. Spec wrote a normal answer there's no need for flaming at all. You better think about your posting once more. It will do the mod only good to participate in the MSU-Contest. This won't be a buggy beta. Like he said we just made some cuts, so the things that will be implemented actually DO work and look extremely fine. There's nothing wrong about that. Really, nobody in the team deserves those harsh words. We are not working our butts of for those kinds of reactions.
