Community section - good idea?

I've been thinking about adding a community section to the website in order to have some kind of "database" of user-made material such as server information and addons for stuff we've done (like FHI maps). It would also be a good opportunity to catalog the downloads into the FileWorks system for good, stable downloads. It's happened so many times: I've been browsing a user content section for a mod (for example, The Specialists) and I've seen a cool model or map. I click the download link and it either times out or gives me a 404. It's incredibly annoying, and since I know some people have made FHI maps, I was wondering if the opportunity of a good file host and a permanent reference on the site would appeal to them.

Anyway, what would the consensus on this be? Good/bad idea? I know some people might think "oh my god, egos gone berserk", but the real agenda is to acknowledge the people that put time and effort in to support the stuff we've done.

Increasing 'Ego'? Nah, I think its a good way of saying thanks to all those who have designed a map or are running servers etc.

I know that the FHI team is busy, busy, busy but is there any chance of seeing some more entries on the community page?

I know that the material is there from the likes of LightBringer and Mr Smiles (to name but two) and (/cynical on) it's an easy way to make a mod seem busy and active (/cynical off)

Because I'm lazy, I never got around to putting any more maps up because I never had time to ask MrSmiles or LightBringer if it would be OK to maybe tidy up a couple of things in some of the maps. For example, Observation is really cool but the terrain isn't scaled at all, and Warehouse is also pretty nifty but lacks a screenshot/description. They're just small things that if corrected or changed could make the maps a tad neater. I don't want to be a nazi about it, though.

I have "neater" a version of Scraith done with screenshots, zones, levelinfo and bot pathing etc.* if Mr Smiles would give permission for that to be posted.

I need to tidy up alot of things in my maps. ah hell, i need to start from scratch with my maps. um, seriously, my maps belong in the trash with the rest of society's crap.

However, being that there is some popularity for my maps, and I have a community of FHI RPG fraggers, they are always asking about the FHI weapons and FHI things. So, maybe if I switch here, it would make better since than the place where I am at right now which was used for my iCTF clan back in the day.
