CODING QUESTION

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

This isnt really inf related, and it might get moved, but it's kind of important to me and I'd like a response, even if my intentions are spiteful.

and I know I shouldnt mention other mods, but it's kinda related & I'm not making value judgements about whats better and what sucks, and I'm not about to start another argument.

anyway, did you guys (the inf team) have to do any special coding to get inf to work on mac? I've had no trouble getting it to work on my mac, none whatsoever.

I'm just curious because the people at U4E (again, sorry, please please please don't delete my post) don't seem to be able to make something that works on a mac. The weapons NEVER spawn in the maps. Maybe I could clue them in, is all.

just curious
& you know where my loyalty truly lies.

No, we've never had any problems getting Infiltration to work on Macs. We've never had to do anything special for them. Most of our problems are getting Infiltration to work on a server as opposed to clients. That is usually the pain in the arse part.

my intentions are slightly spiteful because when I posted something at their messageboard before, I got 3 "macs suck" responses and one response saying essentially "well, macs arent the same as PC's, so we can't help you". Now, my reason for asking was because it's not that anythings wrong with the actual weapons in the mod, it's just that they won't spawn in the map. I'll start a game, and theyre just not there. I could summon them in the console, but they won't replace the weapons in the game. I tried looking in the ini and int files for the mod, and tinkering with the settings in advanced options, no dice. I'm asking because it seems like it's just a job of cutting corners programming somewhere, or just doing a bad job of it. Maybe I should look at the infiltration ini and int files for comparison.

just for the record, the earlier version of U4E came with a U4Erandom arena, wherein you could edit the ini file (or in advanced options) to pick from a random assortment of U4E weapons or regular UT weapons. This, after a lot of tinkering, worked. However, U4E arena, the normal mutator which replaced certain weapons with certain other weapons, has never worked. I'm rather pissed about it too, since I'm old gung ho mac boy, I guess.
and the reason I am being so defensive is because I don't want to hear another "this mod sucks, inf rules" argument go on for like 14 posts, and then have my thread closed before I get a response (a la strike force has). I was trying to avoid bashing.

Here is sum instructions to get U4E to work:

1. Go out and buy a working, nice, new, shiny computer with somthin like a Voodoo 3 in it.

2. go to the top of the tallest building in the city you live in.

3. Throw your Macintrash onto the street.(You might want to keep the moniter though!

)

4. install Unreal/UT/whateveryouwanttoinstall, then download whateveryouwanttodownload, then install that to the file directory, and then, PLAY PLAY PLAY ALL DAY DAY DAY! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have a better idea! Why don't you shove your goddamn hypocritical head up your ass? I think it'd produce results for me that are a lot more satisfactory than buying a p(iece of shit)c! Or, for that matter, destroying 900$ of perfectly working computer equipment! (and screw all you people about to jump on the word "perfectly working")

anyway, it works now, I just forgot to download one file. The people at U4E were in such a rush to release it, they released it as a core of weapons and another mutator, and all this without menu support (have to edit .ini file if you want to get some of the weapons).

I call PC users hypocrites b/c the diehard ones all are like
PC user: Microsoft Sucks! Windows Sucks!
thornz: yeah, I agree. I use a mac, so what OS do you use?
PC user: uhhhhhhhhhhh...I'll talk to you later. And by the way, macs suck.

well whatever, you're entitled to your opinion, but not to bash me for having mine. I use a mac b/c I've been using them since I was 12, thats a good third of my life. I just like them better, so go shove that really ugly bazooka thing up your ass.

oh, and macs can use a voodoo 3, so I might just go and take your advice, just not how you want me to.

and what the hell is that about being shiny? My Imac is a hell of a lot shinier than a freaking beige box!

As a long time PC user(well, got my start with an Apple][, but that was a long time ago /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) to all the Mac bashers I say: Shut the fuck up unless you want to post some valid reasons for your hatred of them.

I've seen SO many people complaning about Macs for no apparent reason. So let's see some real arguments here. Macs have perfectly fine preformance for the casual computer user. What's the problem? How does other people using Macs threaten you to the point you feel the need to insult everyone who uses one? I long to understand your minds.

Grow up. It's not funny or "in" to bash Macs, just annoying.

thornz: As for those hypocrites, those are just the diehards and wannbie diehards who don't understand that there are people who are not diehards out there, who just want something to use. Sure, Windows is full of bugs and crap to annoy the hell out of the avarage Joe, but Windows(and MacOS, now that I think about it /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) is still simplistic enough for them to understand.

This topic is going from bad to worse. Sure, macs may lag behind PCs and their software selection is limited. But let's not forget that Macs can push some OpenGL apps around with great efficiency. (Namely HALO)

But, if you do have/get a Mac, there's a price to pay.

yeah, thats understood. To me, it's worth it.

and I kinda didnt want this to degenerate into this, but this isnt what I expected at all. What I mean is I expected a lot of people to bash the fact that I'm a mac user like normal, which did happen. But, suprisingly, I'm getting a lot more understanding & support than I normally get. I remember a time a couple of years ago, when Apple was dying in a ditch by the side of the road, that talking about macs on the internet got you ridiculed and yelled at. The fact that there are a significant amount of active mac users on this board (i can think of 2 beyond the two that responded to my post, and this is significant b/c thes are active people, not the parade of newbies) shows how much apples come out of the hole.

and yeah, Apple is a bit of a cult.

anyway, I saw the fact that my post had 3 responses after mine and kinda groaned about sifting through hate messages and posts yelling at me for being kinda excessive. Thanks for pleasently suprising me.
