This is across the board. I usually run all by screen settings (including games) at 1024x768.

Then I boot up my machine, and I get a frequency error on the monitor "60k /75Hz Frequency is out of range". I frantically manage to boot up on a previous setting at 800x640, and now I find I can run my screen at 1152x864 !!!! However I can never get back to 1024x768!!

I just downloaded the new Detonator 3 driver for my nVidia TNT2 to see if that would fix the problem, but it didn't.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on with my computer? Could it be that some chip is blown that handles the 1024x768? I can't figure out why 1024x768 in particular is faulty!

please help,

thanks,
Omega10

Could be a dodgy monitor cable , make sure that it is not wrapped around any a/c power cables , not twisted around itself , and most importantly not broken.
Or else it could just be that your GPU has bit the bullet cause of overclocking <g>

Monitortype

tell me the type of graphicsadapter and the type of monitor you use, may be the frequence you try to use with 1024x768 is to high for your monitor!

ehh... it's solved!

thanks for the help.

There's nothing wrong with my monitor or my graphics card - but the problem source is still a mystery.

What I did was, I changed the monitor driver from plug-and-play to the one specific for my monitor and that solved the problem.

The question is: what caused the problem?

You think the default driver got corrupted? If so, then why is every other resolution working!??

Every way it doesn't make sense! I'd like to here someone come up with a theory that can make sense!

cheers,

It was probaly as Lance201 suggested then...problem with an unsupported frequency...

I used to rock and roll all night and party every day. Then it was every other day. Now I'm lucky if I can find half an hour a week in which to get funky.

I don't think so...

How can it be, since I am running NOW at 1024x768 with no change in refresh rate? Furthermore, the resolution 'crashed' when it was working fine before at that refresh rate!

So the funny thing is, you can't say it was a misconfig, since it was working fine before, and it seems you can't say something was broken or file corrupt, since other resolutions worked. So what was the problem??

puzzled,

Hmmmm
When I say unsupported frequency I mean unsupported by the monitor driver/profile that you were using. As I am sure you know , even the smallest change in your PC's configuration can change (or break) something else that seems to be totally unrelated.
anyway at least its working now , so go back to playing INF and impatiently awaiting INF 2.8

ahhh!!!

Yes.. well that definately makes sense!!! I am currently working with a very difficult product that has exactly those quirks! I now see how that's possible with Windoze drivers!

thanks mate!
O101.

ps. what is IT with this forum that deletes the last character of your post? I sign off as 'O101' and I end up getting 'O10'. Nowadays I just end it with a full-stop so at least only THAT get's shaved off. Here's the test, I will end this post with a full-stop.
