Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.
I've recently played a bit of 2k4, and man does it look so much more vibrant and colourful than UT3. I was wondering if it's possible and practical to import some of the textures or materials (never used UE2) from 2k4 to use in UT3?
The textures can be exported from 2k4 and imported to 3, but the effects, materials, etc. have to be created manually. Also, you will find that 2k4 textures will look bad in UT3 due to their lower resolution, missing normal map and so on.
Hm, so maybe I'll just take inspiration from the maps instead and try to make my own like that.
It just that UT3 seems to be so desaturated of colour. I haven't really even noticed this until I got into mapping, and now the contrast between the official 2k4 maps and the official UT3 maps really opened my eyes as to why people always whine about brown, grey, and bloom.
Wormbo makes good points. You could try importing the BSP and using that as a foundation, but use UT 3 assets.
Keep in mind that you have much more control over how a map looks with the Material editor and post processing volumes.
I also like "inspired remakes" better than direct ports. I "remaded" DM-Antalus into DM-Tomac. It has the same basic layout, but I choose to make some things different so it's not the exact same game play as the original.
