Can anybody help me??

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Ok so im new to all the unreal games first and foremost. Any way it seems like when i play Unreal 2 it runs really slow. My rig is more than enough to handle it...i can play Unreal 2004 and Unreal 3 on full settings. So i dont understand why it plays so slow for Unreal 2. I wouldnt call it lag and it dosent skip around just very slow moving. Is this just the way this game is supposed to play???

Only God can help you now.

...

In all seriousness, have you updated with all of the patches? Updated your video card drivers? That tends to help.

With slow, do you mean that the computer acts unresponsively, or just slow gameplay?

If your framerate is fine and your mouse doesn't lag at all, be aware that the running speed in the game is very low compared to others in the Unreal series. That's all I can think of that wouldn't be caused by a technical problem.

Otherwise, make sure you have the patch for the game.

So i went for the patch but it says that it cant find Unreal 2 on my computer...so...next question. I got Unreal 2 included in Unreal anthology--would that already contain the patch? Im sure thats the reason why it cant find Unreal 2.

AFAIK Unreal 2 that came with Unreal Anth is patched.

Also, as gecko stated, it may not even be your computer. The game is very slow compared to most games. When you run, it feels like you're walking at a normal pace. When you walk, you think you're never going to get to the other side of the room.

It's probably just the game.

Yea, I have the same problem.
And done somewhat research... If you open some rooms with some geometry without any decorations, meshes or laggy stuff like that everything works just fine.
Now add a bot and U2 will lag off!!! Well, with one bot it's not too big lag, but when you have 4 it starts to lag like hell. When you play against Skaarj it is very noticeable - when you walk normally, it doesn't lag too much, but when a beefy Skaarj jumps on you it seems that you're in the Matrix warp or something lol, it shows 10th sth frame.
Couldn't find the answer, if you play XMP which is without bots it runs smoothly even with the decorations. So I guess the reason is bots.

I've just had a thought - all Unreal 2 engine games were affected by a bug that meant they ran poorly/not at all on a multi-core CPU.

Try this:
Open Unreal II, let it get to the menu
Alt tab to the desktop
Hit ctrl+alt+del to get the task manager
Flick to the Processes tab
Find the Unreal2.exe process
Right click, and choose Set Affinity...
Untick as many boxes as you need so that only one is selected
Alt tab back into the game

See if that fixes anything.

Yes, U2 doesn't know about dual core cpus and suffers from strange timing issues.

Also, if you're using Windows XP, a more permanent alternative to gecko's solution, is to modify the game shortcut to run the game in 'Windows 2000' compatibility mode. Gecko's solution works but I believe you have to set the affinity each time you execute the game (or use a special program to make it permanent). Personally, I never got U2 to run long enough without crashing that I could change the affinity in Task Manager. Modifying the shortcut is the easiest solution IMO. Simply right click the game shortcut, probably on your desktop, then click properties. From there select the Compatibility tab at the top then check the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' button then select Windows 2000 from the drop down. Click OK and you're done.

All of this assumes you have a dual core setup. If your pc doesn't greatly exceed the box minimum requirements for U2, you WILL have performance issues. U2 is a dog in the performance department.

Well i tried all kinds of stuff but im thinkin its just the game...

Im running:
Core2 duo 1.5ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 8600m GS
Vista home premium

I would think that would be enough....

core2duo@1.5? Ouch. No game favors pure clockspeed more than u2. Unfortunately, you could run it faster with a $60 3.4 celeron.

Not a chance. Sure, the clock speed is lower, but the point is that the Core 2s get more stuff done per clock cycle. That's why comparing clock speeds between old and new CPUs is pointless.

With most games and programs, yes its better. With XMP... not quite.
