BuF's coding forum

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

ca, it is not a war between BU and hosted sites...

It is about diversity. Like papapishu said:

I think it's good with more forums, in case the action runs slow

Chimeric is a wealth of knowledge; however, they aren't the only source of information. Chimeric is a stand alone site. BU does not own or operate your site and we don't own your posts/threads.

If you (Chimeric) receives an offer you can't refuse and decide to leave (which we hope not) the BU forums, then BU and their members are left without a Coding forum. Chimeric has every right to ask for their posts/threads to be moved (if technically possible) and nobody at BU will say no.

I consider Chimeric an advanced forum and BU's Coding forum for newbies. Nothing wrong with that. I want to change the BU's description to "General posts about Coding" and change Chimerics to "Advanced Coding".

ca, you choose. Tell me what I should put in your description to attact more people.

It's silly to spread an already thin community even thinner. There's no sense splitting the forums between beginner and advanced, because there really isn't a very large difference when it comes to Unreal. And who else better to help the newbies than the advanced scripters?

The only reason I can see that the action would run slow in one forum is because everybody is using another one. So why not keep the resources combined where they do the most good?

To me this isn't about 'attracting people' - I just want to see a place where people can actively seek and obtain help. I am a bit offended that BuF decided to create a separate coding forum instead of consulting with me about the CHiMERiC forums, and how to fix whatever is wrong with them, or improve them to fit your needs.

It's all very silly.

aha Lol... good luck trying to make yourself heard Ca.
Anyway I consider chimeric being for experienced Uscript Gurus and the coding forum for newbies/general questions.

Anyway ,one idea would be to merge those two forums into one:The buf coding forums and the chimeric website would point to these f0s.

Agreed, it is silly.
Back when both the Chimeric and WoD coding boards got hosted, I did pipe up & say it seemed to me to be spreading coders thinly. I thought at the time the logical solution was to merge eveyone into one happy family next door to the Ed board.
However, not being an admin, I didn't want to be a busybody, so I brought it up quietly on what was then the PU board.

It now appears that the Chimeric & WoD boards have been shunted in with coding. IMO the names as they stand aren't very helpful, I would say that if the site boards are keeping their identities, the "Help Wanted" should be changed to WeaponsOfDesctruction :)
Though I suspect I've caught the admins in the middle of re-arranging and it's a very temporary setup :)

Yep when I first discovered Uscript, I posted my questions three times, one for each forum.
In hindsight this proberly would of been bad but I had no way of knowing who could answer.
I like it all in one because you can get additional ideas from questions and get the satisfaction knowing that all the great coders will read it.

Strange, TaoPaiPai...seems you are restating what I said earlier.

Anyways, the forums will be as they are now. But I really don't see the difference. You still have a separate Coding forum and a Chimeric forum. You say it's silly to split the forums, but they are split anyways. The only thing that has changed is the color scheme.

They aren't split - they've been merged. This thread originated on the old CHiMERiC unrealscript forum, case in point.

The CHiMERiC forum I assume you're mistaken about has always been about the CHiMERiC website in particular. Maybe somebody should remove the link as to avoid this kind of confusion?

ca, and that's how I had it before. We had a General Coding forum, a Chimeric Forum and a Help Wanted forum.

Now, we have...the same thing...

But you were complaining that we split the forums, when in fact, the forums weren't split. There was only one Coding forum, prior to this latest change. The only difference was, it was in the default BU color scheme.

I left your site's forum, Chimeric, under the General Coding forum and kept the Chimeric's forums colors intact. Now...what was the difference?

It appears, the only complaint is that the General Coding forum was not in Chimeric's color scheme. Therefore it appeared that Chimeric was not host to the General Coding forum.

So, by your statement, Chimeric is for your website. Now we have:

Chimeric

Help Wanted

Coding
___________________________
___________________________

Whereas before I had it listed like this:

General Coding

Chimeric

Help Wanted

Again...show me how that split the coding forums if you claim that Chimeric's forum is only about the site?

Basically, what I tried to do was put General Coding into a forum catagory. The way the page looks now, is a bit...well...ugly.

You have your forum up top with Help Wanted, but then have a slew of post under those topics.

See what I mean?

Before we had:

CHiMERiC - CHiMERiC: website suggestions/comments/etc
CHiMERiC - Unrealscript: general unrealscript coding questions
CHiMERiC - Help Wanted: help wanted requests

BU - Coding: general unrealscript coding questions

Now:

CHiMERiC - CHiMERiC: website suggestions/comments/etc
CHiMERiC - Help Wanted: help wanted requests

BU - Coding: general unrealscript coding questions

You're totally not understanding the situation here. I hope this helps...

LOL, no...no...I did have it like this...before this LATEST change (the one you see now).

General Coding (with BU Default colors)

Chimeric

Help Wanted.

All three forums were in a CODING main Page. The main page did not allow people to post in it. All it did was allow people to see the three forums. Then they could click on any one of the three forums to enter.

Again, I only wanted to put the General Coding into it's own forum catatory so the posts/threads wouldn't appear under your two forums...understand?

I think we're each arguing about something different then. My only complaint has been that BuF created a Coding forum, which was competing with the CHiMERiC - Unrealscript forum (which was silly:)). I don't particularly care about how it looks, I think you and Chris need to work out the details of that.

As long as CHiMERiC's old Unrealscript forum has been merged with BU's Coding forum, I'm happy. Like I originally said, I don't want to spread the community anymore, no sense in having several Unrealscript forums spread out across the site.

Yes, that was my main reason and desire. But I thought you were trying to keep Chimeric as a coding forum seperate from BU's coding forum:).

OK...can I change the forums again, so you can see what I mean. If you still don't like it...we'll revert back to this one.
