Epic Games dropped the Unreal Tournament 3 Bonus Pack 1 on us a couple of weeks ago. We've all been busy playing it and have put together a few thoughts in our review about each individual level as well as the package as a whole.
Also, Portal's GLaDOS seems to have moved in as a warbly female robotic voice sporadically chimes in on an unseen loudspeaker about various unrelated events.
Six Ways said:Yeah, very nice review. Unbiased and fair and expressed pretty much all the points I would have!
i'm pretty sure this female robotic voice is the same voice we heard in the first level of the original unreal.
...Face 2 from the Unreal Tournament bonus pack and Face 3 from Unreal Tournament 3 were both radical...
Face 3 was in UT2k3Face 3 from Unreal Tournament 3
"Begging the question" is a form of logical fallacy in which an argument is assumed to be true without evidence other than the argument itself. When one begs the question, the initial assumption of a statement is treated as already proven without any logic to show why the statement is true in the first place.
A simple example would be "I think he is unattractive because he is ugly." The adjective "ugly" does not explain why the subject is "unattractive" -- they virtually amount to the same subjective meaning, and the proof is merely a restatement of the premise. The sentence has begged the question.
What is it Not?
To beg the question does not mean "to raise the question." (e.g. "It begs the question, why is he so dumb?") This is a common error of usage made by those who mistake the word "question" in the phrase to refer to a literal question. Sadly, the error has grown more and more common with time, such that even journalists, advertisers, and major mass media entities have fallen prey to "BTQ Abuse."
If I were going to note any deficiencies on these maps, it'd be the lack of QA/polish. Within minutes of booting it up, at least 3 bugs were painfully obvious to me:
1.) The aforementioned invisible ledge in Morbias
2.) The "black box of nothingness" atop the roof on either end of Searchlight, and
3.) The utter lack of any screenshots in the map selection screens (all 3 maps)
Seriously though - who checks this stuff before it goes out the door?
