I'm sure this has been pointed out, but in case it hasnt...

the bots don't really understand how to use grenades. I'm not saying they should REALLY be able to use them well (I can hardly use them yet. My timing is a little off), but what they do is pull the pin (using alt fire so the "fuse is lit") and hold the thing until they blow themselves up. It's kind of funny actually. I havent tried this on the higher difficulty levels...
this doesnt happen all the time. Only part of the time. Usually when they throw the thing it's kind of uselessly done anyway...

am I the only one getting this?

just thought you guys should know

If they just pull the pin and don't throw the AI code in the weapon isn't working. In each weapon code their is supposed to be a piece that describes proper use of it to the bots.

That doesn't make sense, i thought you had to release the handle before the fure would start. So you can't blow yourself up. I haven't had a live grenade, but i've seen them.

excactly. This is one of those little bits of realism I think the inf team is waiting to fully implement later when they have the drive to (3.0?). You pull the pin, nothing happens. Theres a lever on the side that comes off when you throw it (let go). They just havent animated the latch coming off. When you alt fire, it's as if the latch flew off and theres a 5 count on the grenade, no matter how long you hold it down (the longer, the harder the throw). You start counting from when you pull the pin (I'm becoming an expertise and my roomate is wondering why I'm mumbling "one one thousand" under my breath). When you normally hold down the primary fire button, it "charges up" the throw so to speak, and no count will start until the thing leaves your hand.

heres another question. I remember my dad saying that in basic training (don't know if they do anymore, this was for vietnam) they teach you to count before you throw, to eliminate the chances someone will throw the sucker back at you. I'm assuming that he let the lever go, so he had a live explosive in his hand? Or have I got things wrong or is he just talking crap?

well if you all have notice the grendade has 2 way of throwing the grenade. 1: primary fire is the fuse IS NOT lit and instead you are holding the lever down. That way you get distance 2. the alternate throw is the fuse IS lit and count has begun. that way the grenade will go off after the 5 count (which is when you activated it compared to the primary and it doesnt activate till after you let go). The bots have never used the grenade with me. That would be funny though to see them do a kamakazi. /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif Well I think that is right some correct me if Im wrong please

well, kamikaze actually works! Has anyone else fooled around with this? I've alt fired, and with full health and 100 armor I'll usually kill the person I run up next to and leave myself with 44 health. I'm not sure if the person was damaged or not to begin with most of the time...

the bot's don't really kamikaze. You can see them throw grenades if you set them to average and give them accuracy in the midrange of the slider bar. They get a certain distance from you and start firing away, quickly running out of ammo. Then they resort to grenades, from the same distance, and start popping (and usually don't die the first time, see part above)

The surviving the kamikaze probably won't happen in 3.0, as the roadmap says you can lose limbs. I doubt that when a grenade explodes in your hand, much will be left of you arm, and if not dead yet, you'll bleed to death. But it's still fun in an enclosed space.

Well the AltFire option can be used for getting rid off players that are chasing ya.
I.e. if someone chases you, run around a corner and just altfire the grenade... don't hold down altfire, just let it drop... run and watch how it goes of exactly under the feet of your chasing 'friend' /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif

honestly, how often has that worked for you?

I get all nervous counting when theres someone behind me, so I count faster and throw it only to have it harmlessly explode behind the person.

on the other hand, when the person DOES kill me I usually drop the grenade and blow them to hell anyway, so I guess it works out even.

About the kamikaze stuff. If you die with a lit grenade, nothing happens right (never tried)? It should be done so that if you die, the grenade is automatically dropped. That way, you can really kamikaze. Doesn't matter if you're dead first, they're dead too!

Oddly enough, the code that worked for dropping live grenades after death in 2.6 was never changed or removed, and should be working...one of those mysteries I never got a chance to investigate!
