I personally like the idea of one CD and the whole attacker/defender concept, but unfortunately too many people prefer to be 'on their own' which makes the whole game mode unpopular. Just last night I jumped on the SOB classic server and it was totally empty. I went over to the StandOff server and it was full. The only thing I can conclude is people will follow a team concept if the concept is simple enough. When you throw in other things like a CD and a time limit, it means more team work with virtually no communication which becomes quite difficult. So unless communication can be improved with UT, we'll have to balance the game more.
With other game modes we have planned we may run into the same problems. The advantage is the server (or player with botmatch) can adjust the game mode's options enough to keep gameplay balanced- ie if you have to rescue a downed pilot and the other team just has to shoot the guy, then you give the enemy limited weapons and limited defense. The person needing to be rescued can also be configured as a few different types- pilots, hostages, soldier dropped off course, and yeah, even a defector. All of these details will probably changes as we develop the game because of limitations, etc. We'd PREFER to have the rescue-ee be player controlled because of the possible problems a bot would entail-- unless UT pulls something out their arses.. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'll be refining many parts of the Roadmap to reflect some research we've made.
