I dont know if this is done already but here goes. Whats the best movie that you ever saw (not restricted to just 1). Last Samurai was a very good one. It made me cry near the end when they were getting shot the nut up with a gattling cannon.:( As far as action goes I have to think about that a minute. :D

I dunno about the absolute best, but Aliens is a pretty good flick. Never get bored of that one.

Why didn't you just buy special edition directors cut edition thing for Aliens? I mean the first one is a classic but not nearly as good as the second IMO. The other two just plain suck. They are beyond horrible.

The boxset contains two dvd's for each film as well as an extra content dvd.
And 3 didn't suck, it just wasn't very good.

Besides which, special edition: £15. quadrilogy from tescos: £22.

So yeah, i bought the 9 dvd edition.

I love the Matrix trilogy, first one being best obviously, then getting progressively worse.

Everyone can be bought. Everyone has secrets. Everyone has an agenda.

LA Confidential. Intrigue, corruption, murder, sex, drugs, you name it, it's in the movie. It's got an incredible plot and has possibly the most "out of nowhere" character death in history.

I'm reading the book at the moment (which will probably rank as my favourite book as well by the time I've finished it), and it's cool to see what got switched around for the movie, gives a few insights on the characters that the movie doesn't show (and makes the whole thing far more interesting if you re-watch the movie) :)

That's an awesome boxset...I bought it myself, but didn't get it for that price sadly.
The Aliens special edition doesn't have anything like the content, Quadrilogy is just about the most comprehensive boxset I've ever seen. Worth £45 just for the two versions of the first two films, which are both classics in different ways.
As for 3 and 4 being crap. I used to think that. I remember seeing Alien 3 at the cinema when I was about 19 and being really really disappointed with it...Now I'm not so sure.
I think the third and fourth films are only crap when you stand them alongside the first two. Of course that's inevitable, they're sequels, but there's a lot to respect. Technically they are both very very good films. Fincher (alien 3) also made Seven and Fight Club, and Jeunet (4) made amelie and delicatessen....They are both brilliant cinematographers and the films both "look" awesome.
I also respect how neither director just tried to remake 1 or 2. They both made really individual films and took some really brave decisions (killing off Hicks and Newt, killing Ripley and bringing her back as a clone) which I think a lot of people (including myself the first time I saw them) didn't like. If alien 3 had been with more marines, like the second but on a bigger scale, then I think people would have liked it more.

As it is, I think they are both flawed films, but individually they are well made movies with some really great scenes and ideas. I also think they both piss all over stuff like Pitch Black.

That's a great movie. Every single actor is at the top of his game in that film....It's brilliant but doesn't seem to get mentioned as often as it should.

Personally, my favourite film of all time seems to fluctuate...it's hard to pick just one. But it definitely comes from one of these:

    Magnolia
    The Godfather Part I
    Pulp Fiction
    Billy Liar
    The Shawshank Redemption
    Amelie

thats the pack that has resurrection (i believe thats the name) in it, right? I think I saw that out at my old work place.

oh how about The Boondock Saints that was a crazy yet good movie. And what do you guys think about the Terminator. I like the first one that had that liquid guy in it. (he was cool)

yeah by all means dont limit (but keep in a moderate length) the good movies.

The liquid guy is Terminator 2. The first one has Arnie as the bad guy and really low-tech special effects (1984 I think it was made...not sure). It's still a great film though.

    EDIT: 900th post :)

Lots of yay for that choice.

I dunno, depends on whether you really are asking for the best movie, or the favourite movie. My favourite movie is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - I'd really liked Y Tu Mama Tambien before it, but I was just blown away with the direction in HP3, and I never get bored watching it, and it never ceases to send shivers down my spine.

Best movie I ever saw...well Magnolia has to be in there, as does the Hours, Empire of the Sun (criminally underrated!), AI (and no, I dont care that no one agrees on that one), The Red Violin, Blade Runner, Rocky Horror...so yea, I don't know.

/edit I forgot, Pleasentville is also a fave.

I really enjoy the LOTR Trilogy, the fist 3 Star Wars.

Like most here, it's hard to pick just one. Fight Club is worth mentioning, along with Stargate, Jurassic Park, House Of Flying Daggers, American History X, Office Space. It's just hard to pick one.
