i haven't played or been on here in a while because i kicked my computer really hard and the hard drive broke. so, i just ordered a new 100GB HD with 8MB buffer, a 128MB Geforce4, and another 512MB of ram (+128 that i'll have in the other slot). so, i think i will not be having any more turd shadow problems anymore. i didn't order a new processor, so i still have a 1.2ghz athlon. will everything run ok, or is my computer still going to suck? anyway, i will play again soon.

Well, with the beast engine that INF uses, I've found that processor makes most of the difference ... it seems to me that today's GFX cards are too powerful for the engine and end up not making too much of a difference. Of course, maybe that's just my crappy computer. :p

INF is all about the RAM!

I get good fps constantly even when I'm ghosting 200 feet above looking down on the entire map, but my paltry 256MB of RAM chokes every few minutes or so.

The unreal engine that is found in UT is created around Software rendering (unlike the unreal engine that is found in UT2k3/2k4).
The Glide, Direct3D, OpenGL support were added later on this engine, that is why UT is heavily influenced by the CPU.

That said, the amount of memory is very important too for obvious reason and will make a difference by limiting some "computer lag" during the game.

And as you will play in Direct3D or OpenGL , a graphic card that is very good in dealing with them is always a good idea to enhance the performance, but the result will not be as spectacular as when you upgrade your CPU or add more memory.

With glide, UT is unbelievably awesome. I would get 60 fps even floating high above maps, seeing 1500+ polys.

Other than that, get the fastest cpu and ram you can afford. Video cards come last. :)

I wouldn't be caught dead using PC133!

But thanks for the offer :)
