I had ensured that the memory I was putting in was compatible with my motherboard, an old Intel DG43GT, which uses DDR2 800mhz RAM, and the board does support up to 8GB of RAM, but now my rig won't boot up. I get a single beep when I power it up, which may indicate faulty RAM. It doesn't get to the BIOS screen, and just sits there, powers down, and powers back up again.
I originally had A-Data 4x1gb, DDR2 800 timing at 5-5-5-15, but when I tried installing the 2x2GB G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM, I plugged everything back in, and then it did the aforementioned indefinite loop of powering up and powering back down, not booting, with the single beep notification.
I'm afraid I damaged the board, which could lead to lots of $ being spent on a new board, new RAM, and new processor. This is quite upsetting, and depressing.
Does anyone have any insight?
