UT3 Assault

    Hi all

    The conversion process goes bad... it's too difficult to use the new UT Editor 3, and the conversor doesn't work well. I think that to convert a UT99 map (the most simple) can take several hours. I tried to use the conversion process with you can convert any map (teorically) in a few minutes, but in the practic isn't true.

    Now I get to convert a UT99 map without nodes and textures, and lighting with several problems. Now to make nodes, repair lights, put textures, make assault cofiguration... can take a few days with two PCs (one with the UT Editor 1.1, and other with the converted map in UT Editor 3). It's a very hard process. :(

    To convert the UT2004 maps (the bests in my opinion) is another history... this will take a loooong time: the main problem are the StaticMeshes. UT99 doesn't have and the conversion is most easy.


    I still trying. When I finish a map I will upload to web. But with my job... I'm doing as I can :rolleyes:

    Another problem I remembered now: in the conversion process all the movers are removed. Why? I don't know, but whit that, the textures, nodes, and StaticMeshes... the 70% of the map are lossed :(

    If anyone know any process that convert easily maps to UT3 with movers, meshes and textures, please I want to know. But the Hyperion converter doesn't work properly. I follow step by step the instructions and didn't work.

    Here are two screenshots of the UT Editor 3 where you can see the full texture and movers missing and the lighting problems.

    But couldn't talented people (such as yourself) just rebuild the maps for UT3? I seen some remakes such as the Campgrounds TAM map and Rankin. It wasn't converted people just created it.

    Wouldn't that be easier than conversion? The UT3 Engine can add a new UT twist to our already favourite maps.:D

    Everything differs through the engines, you can't expect it to work 100%

    Along with the possibility of scaling problems through them too. Easiest way is to just start from scratch knowing the layout.

    I think you're right... but i can't start from 0 to remake the maps... well... I can try... but i don't know to use the UT Editor 3.0

    I know someone who knows... in fact he's an expert. I'll speak with him.

    i actually started rebuilding AS-Overlord (but gave up again) just as a poc that you can build as ontop of warfare. here is the map file if anyone is interested. doesnt have any nice materials or stuff, but the basic gameplay works. where you shoot the controlls in the end there only is a usable trigger atm (press e).

    would be nice if ppl, who knows the ut3 editor would work together. so Assault would be faster available to play ;)

    btw don't waste too much time on AS-Highspeed.

    The most liked Std.-Assault maps in ut 99 are : Frigate, Mazon, Rook, Overlord, (highspeed, oceanfloor and guardia aren't played a lot )


    edit: just tried that AS-Overlord :) looks nice, go on !!!

    why put this map in warfare, then there is a mod assault which in this topic ^^

    it was just a poc i did because i was bored and i didnt know that there was a working assault mod :p

    -its a small beach
    -the field is to short on the beach
    -the pathfinding is nul
    -i love the flak luncher
    -the sea makes fall to us in space ^^

    sorry, but thats not the plan atm. after finnishing dm-goose2k9 i want to build a warfare map. but if anyone of you wants to have the map and finish it (or just use the bsp and this assault mod), just tell me and ill give you the uncooked map.

    How can I get this running in terms of creating maps for it?
    I tried tossing the AS prefix before the map but it didn't seem to do anything
