Armour: These's a blue button hanging off a beam nearby that you can jump up and head-butt to deactivate the forcefield.
LesserBrutes: You have to avoid their rockets and attack from a bit of distance. Back off from them so that they don't catch up with you, and STRAFE (sidestep) to avoid their rockets. Although to some newbies (I was one of these newbies) strafing doesn't seem that important, I can assure you that to survive in an FPS (especially Unreal when you're talking single player), you have to learn to strafe. LesserBrutes are the easiest major opponents you'll face.
You may want to play on Easy skill if you're not already, the difficulty of Unreal goes up somewhat exponentially on the other skill settings.
