Argh. Where do saved profile settings go on Vista?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

When I switched to Vista (stow the Anti-Vista talk, please - RAM limitations forced me to 64-bit and XP 64 has issues) UT3 on Steam became fussy, asking me to input my CD key every time and not saving my settings. I'm pretty sure it's because it's not finding the settings where it's expecting them to be. It's not creating them, either... not sure why.

I tried C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\Unreal Tournament 3, copying over a backup of my user settings, but that doesn't seem to work.

If someone on Vista out there can tell me what folder the game's expecting, I'd appreciate it.

Of course. That's where all the Base INI files and stuff are stored, which are used to create the user files.

Vista and XP changed where those files are stored however. In XP, it was under My Documents\My Games. I THINK Vista does it under <Username>\Saved Games, but it's not creating anything there, and I have a feeling this won't be resolved until it has the files in the right spot.

EDIT: Surprise! Darkpulse is wrong. Sir Brizz pointed out where it was, and it turned out in the process of migration Vista decided those files needed to be marked Read-Only. Undoing that fixed my issue.

So to reward you all, here's a very pretty screenshot. :)

WARNING: 56k will absolutely cry when it even thinks about downloading this. Might want to click the "Stop" button on your browser if you're one of those few people.

"<Username>\Saved Games" is only available since Vista. and it requires some ugly **** to find that location, plus, it's confusing for the end user when its suddenly in a different directory

%userprofile% would be the correct base-line path that works regardless of Vista or XP or system-policy.
I guess that's something only old DOS-users will be familliar with ...

of course (according to MS) a user isn't supposed to care about where the data is kept.
it's somewhere safe on his drives and that should be sufficient as the game knows the location.
And it's not like you can tell the average software to look somewhere else either ...
