I think they should have a playable demo at the booth. Maybe a DM or ONS level to show off...

They better release it soon because I'm feeling rather homicidal from playing nothing but TAM lately since most UT2004 gametypes are dead now.

Anybody who isn't looking forward to E3 needs to either die or go back to his or her cave.

    Benefit of Doubt

E3 is the big gaming trade show in LA. It's the place for console and PC developers show off their stuff, as well as hardware manufacturers and console companies.

Anything that's seen at an E3 is at least a year or longer until release.
They also have shown Duke Nukem Forever and the PS3 there in previous years ... neither have appeared.

So considering that UT2k7 will be released this year I doubt there's any point in showing anything. Might as well wait a few months until the real thing is available. Never mind that we've pretty much seen all that can be seen so far and they'd need to keep something for us to stare at at release-time ...

Hyping any games usually tends to kill them as hype generates lots of false expectations. Just look at UT2k3 ... and you'll know what too much hype does to a game and its community.

AHAHAHAHAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! *wipes tears of mirth from his eyes*
Seriously though, I will eat myself and film it if they have a publicly available demo released at E3. Most likely we'll have another privately-playable demo like we saw last year.
As we haven't seen ANYTHING new from UT2007 since last year's E3 (all the other conventions have just been shown the same demo) it's impossible for us to say with any degree of accuracy exactly how far down the line the game is, but given that they still seemed to be unsure as to the content of Warfare right up until a few months ago, I'd say they're still a *long* way off. Personally I'm guessing at an Autumn release.

    Hope I'm wrong on that...

I'm just hoping they lock Mark Rein in the trunk of a car for the duration of E3, so that he doesn't make another "2 weeks" statement.

My guess as to what will happen is that someone from Epic will do a presentation and will say the following things, or include the following statements:
    • "We're very excited as to what this engine can do"
    • "Cutting edge"
    • Mentioning for the 456th time how many <insert graphics term here> the Uneal Engine 3 can do per second.
    • "Enhanced online experience"
    • Will mention consoles frequently, as will mention how much Epic's keen to develop UT2007 for them.

They'll then go on to show off the engine using either a) another "real time rendered" movie, or b) a member of Epic playing (badly) through a slightly dodgy looking level, while at the same time managing not not show anything that gives any usful hints at to the gameplay. He'll also point out the engine effects at least 4 times.

We'll also get a few nice looking, but utterless useless screenshots of "posed" player models, vehicles and absolutelt nothing of useable value in terms of getting an idea of the gameplay, other than maybe a few colourful and confusing in-game shots (OMG! HUD at last!). There might be a short and low quality gameplay movie (possibly a few shaky cams). Again, nothing useful.

They'll also keep the name. Even though it's marketing suicide.

    Nice Selerox, nice...

...but, why should they change the name? UT2007 has all the features of an UT2X game.
