It would be cool that you could chose the order and number of tracers in your clip.
This way you could personalize your clip so that you can pick the combination that you find the best.
Ex: I would like one tracer every three bullets and the last 5 bullets must be tracers.
At the player preferences you could make a representation of a clip and the player can change the status of the bullets from non-tracer to tracer and the other way of course.

Would be very cool!!

Quite funny idea. I really like it - would bring in some more tactical gameplay, especially when shooting with tracers makes you more easily discovered than without.
As it's said: 'tracers work both ways'

I personally would use no tracers at all, except the last five rounds, or the fouth last, which would give me a good idea when to change a mag; I always use the M16 semi-auto, which is much more difficult than burst, but can be a lot more effective, if you have fire discipline. I can kill two bots with 2-4 rounds, depending on distance.

To return to your suggestion - I really would like to see that, just I have no idea wether it is possible to program or not.

That's the answer I was expecting..

Just imagine what the INF team could do if they had unlimited ressources!
What they made now is damn near my idea of an ideal FPS.

Let's wait 'til everybody has a PXIII for the custom tracers.. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Actually, this may be a damn fine idea. I remember that in Vietnam, the flying gunships (modified c-130's or something) used 1/2 tracers on it's miniguns. The effect you would get is a white-yellow finger of destruction chewing up dirt and humans, thus scaring the living ship out of the enemy. Of course there are no miniguns in this game, but, I would use a 1/2 loadout for defending the base in CTF/AS, with an m249 to alert my teammates to danger faster.

You could also use it to coordinate assaults ie: 'wait for the signal to attack' and so forth.

The feature by itself is not complex, but when you combine it with other options in a loadout menu, including 20+ weapons, different ammo types, costs, weights, bulk values... This can really overwhelm someone. We'll try to incorportate options like this somehow where it can physically change the layout of the loadout window- so if you want realistic all around, you know you'll be dealing with complex information. Then if all you want is a medium setting, less options will be available. Finally if you want it to be just plain easy, than even less options do you see. I've said it before- I love options. But I also know when to quit.. =)

you need to stop? nah.. Options are like girlies, soilders, corupt poloticans, Ram slots, ect. Ya can never have too many, so long as they're doing what ya want.

I have an idea to make things a little less difficult on the newbie...
You could have different tabs on the loadout or player preference screen indicating that the different tabs hold normal/advanced options.
There should be a default on the advanced option so that the average newbie doesn't need to change them. Only the more experienced player would feel the need to change things like custom tracers...
In the advanced tab, you could make a visual representation of a clip and there a player could change the status of the bullet to tracer or non-tracer.
I don't it's hard to calculate the cost of the custom clip, wheight and bulk? are tracers heavier or bulkier than normal bullets of the same type??

IMHO this kind of features give infiltration an 11/10...

Sylvester, I think you've got it spot on with how it should be done, that being advanced options that CAN be customized by players rather than NEED to be customized by players. If someone doesn't feel like screwing around with custom tracers in their mags/belts, leave the default as straight ball for mags and 4:1 for belts.

I don't think it's really a question of IF the Inf team can do something like that, it's a question of how long it will take them. Everyone's bitching for 3.0 to be released but they also keep clamoring for more and more features. The more features to be implemented, the longer it's going to take to release. I'll speak to Warren on the tracer feature and make some recommendations/suggestions. I have a few ideas that MIGHT help implement it, but I'm _NOT_ promising anything.

And BTW, despite being longer than their ball equivalents, tracers are actually lighter or about the same in weight because the pyrotechnic composition is far less dense than some of the lead core it replaces. The difference in weight is negligible, and without looking at the bullet tips you'll never be able to tell if a mag is charged full of ball or tracer by weighing it in your hand.

If it isn't possible for V3, consider it for future versions!
I don't want to get blamed by all the patient players if infiltration V3 is delayed because of this idea /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif
I want, as anyone, get my hand on this mod asap...
