reminds me of some POS light Machinegun that was used in WWI

it was french-made, but they dumped them on the americans the first chance they had.

Ahh yes, the infamous Chauchat:

The Americans even tried converting it to .30-06 and used a straight mag, but the heavier recoil only shook the gun to pieces more quickly. One of the museums in town actually has one of these on display. Talk about crude...
