360 install question

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hi,
I tried installing Halo 3 a while back hoping it would cut down the load times but it turned out to increase them rather than decrease them! I read this has to do with the way the game is meant to stream from the disc and the hdd instead of just the hdd.
Either way, now I am wondering if there are any benefits to installing UT3 on the xbox hdd. I read the engine is meant to stream from the disc and devs can chose to utilize the hdd if they need it but UT3 loads and runs fine from the disc so maybe it doesn't have further optimization for using the hdd.

So my question is, does installing the game on the hdd wield any benefits?

EDIT: Loading seems a bit faster but it wasn't too long before either so I might be imagining this.

Well, it seems logic prevails as far as the UT3 install goes. I just played a bunch of full deathmatch games against bots and the loading times definitely seem shorter.

In Halo 3 they increase significantly though if you install it to the hdd. Here is a source other than me:

Haha, well what do you know. That explanation does make some sense, mind. Halo 3, is indeed older than the ability to install it to HD - whereas UT3 itself isn't :)

Optimisation ****ed up by optimisation xD

Ok, while the loading times seem a bit faster (but they only take seconds before and you only save a few seconds after) I noticed that installing the game on the hdd introduced the demo guy problem which was absent when playing it directly from the disc.
When playing the campaign in coop with my brother the second player got to play as demo guy instead of Othello.

It's not that big a deal, but since the decreased loading times aren't a big deal either I'm going to play it from the disc again.
