I would love to see a .338 sniper rifle in your mod. .338 is lighter than .50 and more accurate, as well as more effectice against soft target(IE people) Below is my model of a Marine Corps M40A3 rifle chambered for .338.

Alright, at first I have to say real nice model.
Especially I appreciate such things because I couldn't model a stick.

Some things about the .338 I doubt although - the weapon not the model.
1. AFAIK it's no standard round for any military unit.

2. Might have better accuracy as the .50, but sure as hell it has less range and less power. Except you compare a AP .50 to a HP .338, but even then the .50 would probably knock out the target.
And the .50 IS a really accurate round; in Vietnam they used M2HBs with Unertl scopes for sniping up to 2500 meters.

If you send in the model, maybe the INF team would accept it - might be glad about an add-on weapon.

Keep on modeling!

I see several problems with this, the main one being that we'd IMMEDIATELY be crucified by the Counterstrike lovers for 'copying' their AWM.

The second is that the M40A1 is a short-action Remington 700 action and cannot be modified to accept a massive cartridge like the .338 Lapua Magnum. The new M24 rifle is based on a long-action and was in fact chosen for this in anticipation of rebarrelling to .338 Lapua Magnum. Most snipers don't seem too happy with this since there are no current plans to switch to the new caliber, and the longer action makes for less reliable feeding with the shorter .308 Winchester

except that model looks a few thousand polys over budget I'm afraid /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Normally smoothing groups are used to sort of hide edges, but you can see on the ends of the scope and barrel that it's smooth, which means a rather high poly count.

I agree with everything except the point about copying from counter-strike. Every new mod that uses realistic weapons these days is automatically dubbed a counter-strike ripoff anyway, so why even bother using that as criteria to determine the addition of any new weapon or feature.

I agree with Mr. T.

CS fans seems to think that they have some sort of copyright over ALL the weapons in CS. I don't know about Gooseman but the fans are kinda 'unreasonable' (to put it mildly). I've played CS. Quite fun, but there are also many other fun mods out there.

I suggest that if you guys like the weapon (or any weapon for that matter) just model them and insert them in the new version and just deal with the flames that will undoubtly rise from those ignorant fans. In fact, as I recall, Infiltration IS older than CS, right? Than again, I myself place no great importance over seniority.

I'm in heaven, guys! You guys doing Infiltration, SWAT was just released and Strike Force on the way! The mod scene is amazing in Unreal Tournament! /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

You guys rock!

To Gryphon...

Loe, I do know that the precious M40A3 is for .308. A .338 M40A3 is just a dream of mine ever since a friend of mine let me go through about 200 .338 magnum rounds with his Dakota Arms T-76 Longbow. The only thing I didn't like about the .338 was the recoil, it is a pretty abusive round. But its performance is excellent, even out to about 1200 meters (would've liked to go further but terrain was not permitting). The reason I said it was better against human targets than the .50 is because there isn't a match round(that I know of) for .50. This limits its performance. But the sheer power of the .50 makes it something to be respected and worshipped.
Also, about the model, yeah, it has a poly count of about 2200. This is because I modeled the M40A3 for fun(its my favorite sniper rifle) and just wanted to look at it in 3d.
Also, about the PSG1, it is no longer the most accurate semi-auto sniper rifle. The Walther WA2000 sniper rifle is supposedly the new semi sniper rifle. Unfortunetly, they are about 15 pounds and VERY expensive.

speaking of counter strike rip offs, anyone notice how similar the swat map home alone is to the map mansion?

It is impossible for the glass to be half full or half empty for you see: there is no glass

Blaser R93

Yeah, I've never shot one, but I heard they are nice rifles. They can be chambered for just about anything you want also. I am thinking of doing either a Blaser R93 or a Walther WA2000 for my next model. They both look nice and are excellent rifles (so I've been told).

AWM50.jpg

Accuracy International's AW50 has entered the scene. /infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I know of someone in Manitoba that has one for sale. Around CDN$22,000 if I recall correctly. Guess I should start buying lotto tickets....

ok ok

I am a big Counter-Strike Fan, but... I dont consider everything with realistic weaponry to be a rip off. I say if the weapons are realistic, Good Job, keep it up, as long as the gameplay is not the same. And Infiltration is most certianly not a CS rip off, beacuse they are doing a hell of alot more things than CS has ever done. And Infiltration will not use a crap-ass netcode! /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
