227 patch MAC testers needed

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

The Unrealism Zone

Hello! I know that this response is to a forum over a year old, but I come to tell you that I have a website running right now, which is part of a project to get Unreal/GOLD & UT99 fully functional in the OS X PPC/Intel environment. I am also willing to be a tester for this version of Unreal, if you do not already have some.

If you want more info on what I am doing, visit UnrealOSX.webs.com.

Yeah, my bad. I completelly forgot i made the request here on the forums. But indeed, Smirftsch who is working on patch 227 did not get permission from Epic to also do a MAC version.

So its limited to a Windows and Linux version. A real shame of course but what can you do. I guess we should be gratefull that the source codes were made available to begin with.

Here is the thread on that on Old Unreal: Thread, MAC is no go......

Ah, crud. I forgot....:(

I read that forum sometime last year. Is there an undistinguished way to do this? This is really what my site is up for; to get Unreal fully working in the OS X environment.

By the way, check out my YouTube video on Unreal GOLD in OS X (HD). This is strictly based on the 436x3 release of Unreal Tournament, so it is like an UG/UT99 hybrid. The rest of the info on it is in the video description and the video itself, of course. Here's a link:

Plus, I made a newer version with the old menu. It is much more like the old Unreal with the old menu, and it is almost just like playing Unreal, but it lacks some game-type features. I will release a video on that soon, as well.

Actually the port in the first post is for PPC anyway, so it wouldn't support the latest OS X from what I can see.

Now by bringing up the latest version of OS X, do you mean Snow Leopard or Lion? It works in Snow Leopard because Universal/PPC Binary (Rosetta) is still supported. However, there were some rumors about Lion (10.7) dropping Rosetta altogether....

Dude just make a new ini using defaultgametype unrealshare.singleplayer, then it will work right and you can play Unreal maps normally, or use oldskool mod.

Actually, I did that in my second copy, but it's missing key features and game types. Plus< I want to figure out how to get tracker music to work in OS X, as well. Ever heard of CocoModX?

Nah I have no idea of that, I am not MAC person and I haven't worked with a MAC since 90s.
But you can also set your console to something else too, try one of the Unreal consoles and have it start at Unreal.unr instead of cityintro. Again through ini.

Wow. You've been missing out since about late 1999, then. LOL

I've renamed the Unreal.unr file to cityintro, made another copy, and named the other file Entry.unr, but not through the .ini file, as you can see in the video I posted in an earlier post; However, since you brought that up, I can try that, now. I sort of want to work on UT first, though since I like it a little more. :D

By the way, CocoModX is a tracker file player for Mac OS X. I want to see if I can get something from it make it into a system file for OS X so it could recognize .umx files while running UT or Unreal. I love the music from both games, and I'm tired of playing it through iTunes.

No need to rename files, you just need to change few things in the config file and it will work fine.

No problem. :) I meant to add that I renamed the files (in the video) to avoid messing with the .ini files because that was back when I didn't know very much about them. This is the first version. In the second version I worked with, on the other hand, I almost did exactly what you said, but it's far more based on the original Unreal rather than Unreal Gold, and UG is what I'm striving for.
