My buddy is building a new computer, and one of the places he's (unfortunately) cutting costs is the graphics card. He wants to keep the price right around $100. It really doesn't matter the brand (nVidia or ATI). So, what are your expert suggestions?

Thanks. Yeah, he isn't into gaming at all, but he does quite a bit with Photoshop and webdesign.

At least 1/4 of everything I get in the mail from TigerDirect is a rebate deal.

I'd go with the nForce2 mobo that FTUXXX suggested. They're relatively inexpensive and the onboard gfx card has more than enough prosessing power if all your friend does on his computer is image-editing.

well then, I guess i'm wrong. Check factorydirect.ca too, they have great prices but their products are usually either used or after rebates.

This is an excellent little board. I've built half a dozen systems with it, and it's been perfect. Onboard video (dual, even), LAN, sound, and IEEE1394.

Take note, however, that there are only 3 PCI slots (though considering how much of it is onboard, that's enough for most people), and support for a max of 4 IDE devices without an addon card.

88 dollars and free shipping, and a free hat, shirt or paperweight :)

    I got a Geforce FX5600XT 128mb for £79.90 off of Novatech.

Not sure what that is in dollars, but its black, has a fan, plays f***ing nice, even tho I have a measly P3 1ghz processor!

    I say get the GeforceFX.

EDIT: Also, its a DX9 card so it has all the new technology like multi-pipelining, CineFX, Pixel shaders and some other cool sounding crap.
