2K Games and Gearbox have announced the second DLC for Borderlands called "Madd Moxxi's Underdome Riot". This DLC will arrive December 29th for Xbox 360 for 800 MS Points, January 7th for Playstation 3 for $9.99, and at some future point for PC with a currently undisclosed price.

Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot is an intense single-player or cooperative experience that expands the mayhem by adding three new Riot Mode arenas where players will endure an onslaught of Pandora's baddest enemies. Working together, players will fend off the masses as they fight for fame, honor, and more importantly, loot. Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot also adds a new bank feature, which allows players extra storage capacity for when they encounter one of the more than 16 million weapons that Borderlands has to offer; and the ability to acquire two additional skill points as quest rewards, making their characters even more powerful than before.

Full press release in the comments, as usual.

Update: Kotaku got an update from Gearbox Software stating that Undererdome Riot is "not just new deathmatch areas."

CEO Randy Pitchford notes "This is an ENTIRELY NEW GAME MODE."

"Think [Halo 3] ODST's 'Firefight' or Gears of War's 'Horde Mode.' Cash, prizes and competition!" Pitchford said in a statement from Gearbox. "It's like Smash TV in coop FPS, but in the Borderlands."

Gearbox reps say the new Borderlands downloadable content "expands greatly on the possibilities of combat as well adding a ton of new rules such as vampire mode or low gravity mode..."

2K Games Announces Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, the Next Explosive Piece of Downloadable Content for Borderlands™

New York, NY - December 10, 2009 – 2K Games announced today that the second piece of downloadable content for Borderlands™, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, will be available on December 29, 2009 from the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 800 Microsoft Points and on January 7, 2010 from the PlayStation®Network for $9.99. The downloadable content will also be available on Windows PC. This explosive piece of action-driven content is in development at Gearbox Software and provides players with more methods of destruction as they tear through the denizens of Pandora.

Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot is an intense single-player or cooperative experience that expands the mayhem by adding three new Riot Mode arenas where players will endure an onslaught of Pandora’s baddest enemies. Working together, players will fend off the masses as they fight for fame, honor, and more importantly, loot. Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot also adds a new bank feature, which allows players extra storage capacity for when they encounter one of the more than 16 million weapons that Borderlands has to offer; and the ability to acquire two additional skill points as quest rewards, making their characters even more powerful than before.

Featuring extensive co-op integration that seamlessly blends the single-player and multiplayer experiences, Borderlands allows players to freely join or leave each other’s games at any time for collaborative mayhem or the freedom to choose to play in full single-player mode to experience the world on their own. Borderlands also includes a groundbreaking weapon generation system that offers a near infinite variety of weapons to the player. Borderlands combines these fan favorite features with addictive non-stop action to form a breakthrough experience that challenges the conventions of modern shooters and RPGs.

Borderlands™, rated M for Mature by the ESRB, is developed by Gearbox Software and is currently available for the PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, the first piece of downloadable content for Borderlands, is currently available for all platforms.

2K Games is a division of 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO).

This will be one I pass on.

Extra slots for weapons? I already have MORE than enough slots for weapons. Infact, I sell everything except maybe 5 guns (with 30 slots open) because noone wants to keep a level 1 gun for their level 50 character.

And 10$ is steep for 3 arenas imo, when they just released a DLC that was huge in comparison for the same price. I think this should be a free DLC add-on, and not something they charge for.

But as usuall, it is a business and ethics aren't part of business practice these days. I just really don't see the point in buying something so small and pointless for a game.

Wonder what kind of Secu-Rom this will have on it?

Another one that I will pass on. Some of the stuff listed like the bank system should have been in to begin with. Lots of people wanted it, so now they have to pay for it.

I'll need more details before I decide to plunk money on this. Namely how the storage system integrates into the game. Extra skill points is nice but I'd prefer a true level cap increase instead. So far this sounds like $4.99-7.99 would be a better price.

I would rather have a level cap increase and more areas to kill and explore in....Invasion for Borderlands doesn't sound all that great to me

But I'll wait to see game play videos before i write it off completely

I heard they send someone to your house to install it for you, steal your disc and then kick your dog.

They also have my underwear.

.............

Could be fun for some psychotic mayhem with 3 or 4 players, fighting BadMutha Skags, Sledge, Flynt, Lance Infantry all at once as four level 50s...
After all the tactical versions of this gametype, it'll be interesting to see the Borderlands take on it.

well, they did provide a revoke tool, but then, whats the point of limited activations if you can just run a little tool and get them back?

That's reason enough for me to pass on it, it'll no doubt have the same 5 install limits.

For a game that boasts so much about all it's special guns, i wondered why there wasen't some kind of stash system like in Stalker.
Turns out it costs extra, yay, it's a brave new world of micro transactions.

Funnily enough I am working on what you'd call that arena concept. Too bad their DLC is paid, I could make a nice us of their new content for everyone.

Extra slots for weapons? I already have MORE than enough slots for weapons.

It's a handy feature, once you've figured out how to give weapons to your co-op friends. Of course, once you've figured out how to hold virtually unlimited weapons in your pack, then it becomes a mute point. I'm currently holding about 130 weapons, after having passed out all my duplicate legendary weapons. I'm a bit of a pack rat.

Why the obvious Mad Max reference, do you suppose? This kind of steps beyond homage.

Did you play the first CoD? I remember your name from that game...

OT: Yeah, I think I'm gonna pass on this too. My interest for this game has waned. Don't see much variation in it anymore. :(

Mclogenog

Nah, Mclogenog is just random half names and ideas thrown together; no allusion here.

As for Borderlands, I hope they do a retail release including all of the DLC on it, kind of like Oblivion GotY (or Morrowind GotY for that matter). This particular content, however, doesn't seem nearly as interesting as the zombie island of Dr. Ned.
