In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the UT demo(my god how sweet that was), Unreal Tournament will be $1.99 on Steam this weekend. In addition, the Unreal Deal pack is an incredible 60% off and this will be a free UT3 weekend - meaning you'll be able to play the full version of UT3 this weekend only via Steam. PRELOAD STARTS TODAY!

Epic Games, Inc. invites everyone to check out Unreal Tournament 3 Black, the premier first-person shooter with more official content and community mods than ever before, completely free of charge starting tomorrow.

Thursday, September 17, marks the 10-year anniversary of the original Unreal Tournament demo release, and to celebrate Epic will kick off a long weekend in which anyone can log onto Valve's Steam digital distribution service, download Unreal Tournament 3 Black and play the game through the weekend free of charge. Preload for the Free Weekend begins today.

In addition, the original Unreal Tournament will be on sale for $1.99, and both Unreal Tournament 3 Black and the Unreal Deal Pack will be available for 60% off through September 27.

Unreal Tournament 3 Black comprises Unreal Tournament 3 together with the free Titan Pack, a massive bonus pack with countless enhancements and new environments, the Titan mutator, the Greed and Betrayal gametypes, the Stealthbender vehicle, weapons, deployables, characters and more. Unreal Tournament 3 Black also includes over 50 Steamworks Achievements.

Players who purchased Unreal Tournament 3 at retail can enter their retail key by using the "Activate a product on Steam" feature in the Steam client, and Steam will automatically update them to Unreal Tournament 3 Black for free.

In addition to Epic's internal efforts to support Unreal Tournament 3, hundreds of mod authors have created new levels, characters, weapons, vehicles and total conversions for the game as part of the $1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest. Phase 4 submissions are being judged now, and notable entries include:

Happy anniversary UT! I remember reading up on UT1 before it's release and waiting for it to come out with anticipation like I hadn't felt in a long time. I knew it would kick Quake3's butt without even playing either game! And it still does....

So how about putting the Unreal Anthology DVD key number on STEAM so those of us who bought that DVD can put their games onto Steam without having to buy them twice? ;)

Yeah happy birthday UT! I only got the demo in early october, but couldn't stop playing. Despite the fact that my machine could barely handle the eyecandy. Morpheus and Phobos were so impressive. I had barely begun playing Unreal as well, and was still getting used to the dodging system. Crashing around corners like a madman, jumping of the morpheus towers burning up in the atmosphere :D

Good times. You're a monument UT.

Oh what a day that was.

I was in high school, in my physics class. My buddy tells me he has the UT demo and that after school we have to do a LAN party. That night was pure mayhem, Morpheus Instagib!

Will never forget that.

I really miss the feel of that never ending all night long interstellar slaughterparty that UT1 and 2k meant to me :)

Long live Unreal Tournament! :)

And long live 3rd UT, growing stronger with content by each day! I can't wait till someone finally makes a Tournament Ladder SinglePlayer mode for it :)

Holy hell I'm picking up the discounted Unreal Pack. I've been wanting to add the Unreal games to Steam (minus UT3, which I already have on Steam) for a while now.

I dunno.. mine never looked like that. Also, it's free to play this weekend. After this weekend you have to cough up some dough. It is on sale for 60% off though.

When teh UT demo came out, I had barely ever used a computer (didn't have one myself). I played it on my mates crappy PC at SR 400x300 resolution but it just captured me - I think what really made me keep playing it were bots, weapons & music (& morpheus). The bots behaved so human-like and cheeky - I was losing and they were taunting me and I just had to go back and beat them. Redeemer, zomgz so cool. Razor-ub.umx, zomgz so cool. It just kept getting better from there, as I upgraded to richer mates' PCs with Direct 3D & higher resolution, discovered monster kills & sniping low-skill bots on facing worlds... and lavagiant was just a cool atmosphere... bah, now I want to go back >_<
