A portion of the recently announced DLC for Killing Floor has been released along with a few small fixes. Coming soon will be the new map, Foundry, along with the new weapons.

  • Additions
  • Added 4 new Characters as a purchasable DLC pack available via the Steam Store
  • Added new animations for the specimens busting down doors
  • Implemented a faster Quick Heal system
  • Updated the Door Welded display
  • Updated Mutator and Map White Lists(see Killing Floor forums at forums.tripwireinteractive.com for more details)
  • Fixes
  • Fixed the Chainsaw blade not moving, and sleeves not appearing right on the Chainsaw
  • Fixed the issue with the player going to an idle animation after firing a weapon, which made the player look stiff
  • Fixed bug where specimens would stand at a door waiting to bust down a door
  • Fixed specimens not playing a movement animation after breaking down a door
  • Fixed Map White List retaining old Pass/Fail status from previous map
  • Fixed the Hunting Shotgun's unlimited ammo bug
  • Removed Stats Icon from servers that are currently on a non white listed map

I've always wondered how premium content can compete against custom content when they both could be produced at nearly the same good quality (in which the user would rather choose the free, custom content). I've got nothing against Killing Floor but well, any thoughts?

Exposure. Not just DLC but practically any marketable item in any industry.

There are no worthwhile custom skins for Killing Floor so this is a purely theoretical question.

I'll take another game as an example, which has loads of custom skins (and that's the exception!):
No offense to anyone who made skins (I'd like to include playermodels in the term skin as well, for the purpose of this post) for UT2004, but have you looked around for good player skins? A vast majority are downright bad. Bad re-color jobs, bad looking nude or almost-nude skins, bad necrified versions of popular characters... Of the few that are acceptable many lack team-skins or have some other deficit like missing animations for certain actions. The tiny fraction of skins that really are on par with the retail ones more often than not do not fit in with the rest of the characters, which is amazing in its own right considering how broad the spectrum is in UT2004. This leaves only a selected few skins that are actually good and fit in and of those half of them require twice the processing power to run properly than the retail ones.
And when you do finally find that holy grail of a perfect skin - you can't see yourself and others on the server will see you as Jakob because they don't have it installed.
Might sound overly negative, but it's true.

Getting four skins that are implemented in the game, on par with or even surpassing the existent ones for just 1.79€, which also supports devs you might like to support, isn't nearly as bad a deal as you are seemingly implying.
Especially for Killing Floor, where the standard skins aren't very varied and there are no custom skins around.
