Download the brand new all-singing-and-dancing version of your favourite chatting mutator, RD here or here. And do take the time to at least skim through the readme file included and found online here and here.

And I've also crammed out a new pre-release version of that inexplicably popular HUD mutator UTCompass. Version 0.3 now has a messenger display feature similar to INFGPS, which should make it slightly less of an abomination in the eyes of the realism junkies out there. Get it here or here.

Enjoy.

thanks, great job.
i don't understand something tho:

mutate direction My position %x %y %SY facing %c

results in i.e. :

My position 65 70 facing north by northeast

this used to be only 'northeast' before iirc?

it seems that the string is longer now even tho in the readme you say it should be shorter. :)
* Made cardinal and abbreviated heading tags case-sensitive. Mainly to reduce message string lengths as they appear on the HUD.

but i'm probably screwing something up ..

Well i'm adjusting all my binds to change %c's into %a's. Played online a bit but i must say, maybe it's because im used to North, Southwest etc , i prefer non-abbreviated directions in my speech. But all non-abbreviated directions are longer now if i'm not mistaken.
What used to be 'northwest' is now 'north by northwest' am i right?
If so, is there a way to have rd just do 'northwest' ?

i hope im not whining

As the readme perhaps-not-so-clearly states, there are more cardinal headings now to enable more accurate directions without the aid of a numerical compass. "North by Northwest" is between north and northwest. So rather than north->northwest->west you now have north->north by northwest->northwest->west by northwest->west. See? A bit more accurate, as each heading now denotes a 22.5-degree sector rather than a 45-degree one.

As for reducing message strings, since the HUD isn't using a fixed-width font, capital letters take more room, and therefore I added the possibility to not use caps.

Depending on how the extra cardinal headings work out I might add a tag for the 'old' headings in the next version.

BTW: Without INFGPS there really is no reason for using the %X, %Y and %Z tags. If you feel your messages are too long you might consider doing without these coordinates.

Thanks for replying.
I was just thinking along those same lines myself.

Perhaps you could make the x,y and z positions visible in tiny font above/below the utcompass?
Maybe toggle-able so it's off by default in case people mind.
( i'd rather keep xyz for some use )

But for now, i'm taking them out.

Also i'd like to say that i'm very happy that most 2.9 maps have excellent location id's throughout the map and the more i 'learn' the locations the better i am in knowing where everybody is when teamsay.

I love 2.9 dammit!

Yet another progress report

Got some work done tonight on the compass texture. Thought it was due for an upgrade. Added degree markings in tens and some translucent fields to better mark the cardinal headings. Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas about this? I'm kinda worried the display will get too "crowded" with all this stuff up there.

BTW, how're the new versions of UTCompass and ReportDirection working out online? Haven't had the time to get connected and look it over myself.

Nice

UTC and RD seemed to me to be working well last night (particularly love the player location tags, realism or not :)), although the compass seemed to disappear entirely during the second half of one level (Mostar/ArabOutpost/can't remember) and reappear for the next level.

Slightly off topic but noticed the same with SpeechPad on AFA server the other day on RtK that it dissapeared for one round...
Just wondering if this is a bug/feature on a larger scope conserning hud-addons?

I have a question. I remember for 2.86 that the objectives showed up on the compass along with elevation indicators. Does the new UT Compass do this? It didn't seem to. Do I need to input anything? I know that INF 2.9 comes with a compass with objectives, but it neglects elevation and the CD carriers location. Also, could any future UT Compasses have the location of the CD carrier for their own team? Just a consideration. Besides that, the new UT Compass skin looks nice, and I also like how the indicator is also the same color. It seems to blend in better. I also like how it changed with the HUD color if you have a custom HUD color. Keep up the good work. I always appreciated your mutators. They really add to INF to help with the intended gameplay and realism.

I agree with jaymian, having the CD carrier's name be displayed constantly on the compass would be nice. Also, make the name in a different color than all the other names on there.

Also, it would be nice if the specialist was always displayed on the compass as a normal name. Then, when the spec had the cd, the name's color would change.

Personally I'm not all that keen on having the specialist constantly displayed on the compass. But if some people prefer it, I guess I could make it another server option.

The way it works as of now (in v0.4 - soon) the specialist is only displayed after sending a message just as any other teammate, but he is marked by an "(SP)" suffix. (I.e: If I were the specialist I'd appear as "Olethros(SP)" on the compass.) It may not stand out as clearly as a different color, but as the compass changes color with the rest of the HUD that would have its drawbacks too. If the specialist is carrying the CD, his name and marker will flash with a frequency of 4 Hz. Just like a CTF flag carrier.

I'll probably have v0.4 out sometime during this weekend.
