I've been pretty busy lately so I haven't been able to share as much as I would like to.

Here are a few of my recent shots:

A local classic guitarist. He is very good and he makes guitars.

I browse a lot of photography related websites during the day. I have roughly 20-40 websites a open each morning. Its part of my morning routine. Many websites don't have any news, but some do. Recently I thought to myself, why isn't there a photography website that reports it all? There are so many niche websites but nobody is offering you a one stop shop for all photography news.

So I came up with: http://www.rawphotonews.com/
I just launched it a few days ago so I'm still tweaking some things. I started out with some older news just to get going. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. Constructive feedback is welcome of course.

So, my friend has generously given me his Manfrotto tripod that he doesn't use and it's fine for the camera with the kit lens but I need to get a different adapter plate to use with the AF-S Nikkor ED 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II as the single pin adapter plates unscrew in use (this is the one that I have: http://www.manfrotto.com/product/8374.56.76907.0.0/625/_/Hexagonal_Plate_Adapter).

My problem is that I can't make out from the pictures which adapter plate I need to use with the longer lens. There are a couple that look like they have two screws (or one screw and a pin) but the pictures aren't clear enough for me to make out. The list of options is here: http://www.manfrotto.com/product_list/8374.56.76907.0.0/Plate_Adapters

Could one of the owners of the 70-200 suggest which plate they think I should be going for? My guess is this: http://www.manfrotto.com/product/8374.56.76907.0.0/505PL/_/505PL_Accessory_Plate

I have an old friend who came into possession of a panoramic photo print from the 1930s. It has been rolled up for years and he would like to unroll it, possibly have it reprocessed. What is a good procedure for properly unrolling the print without causing undue damage? Or, would you recommend he take the print to a professional to unroll it?

Thanks to anyone who can provide helpful info.

I think I would take/send it to a professional. I imagine it's pretty dry and might crack the imagine when unrolling. There might be a group on Flickr for this stuff too, so asking there surely somebody would know.

Luck, and standing outside for an hour and holding the shutter open for 5-8 seconds at a time or until lightning struck. I would try keeping the shutter open for around 30 seconds if I had a darkening ND filter for the 10-20 lens, not sure if it that would work any better. It's tricky to get the right balance between the city lights and lightning strikes. Anyone have some experience with this?

The exif data is listed here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/meowmixed/5859181556/meta/in/photostream

You can buy lightening triggers for this sort of thing, however I'm not sure how expensive they are. They look a bit like a wireless flash transmitter that clips onto your hotshoe.

Thanks I appreciate it! Lucky for me, I get to pick some of the ads I display. Makes more sense when the advertisements are relevant to the content.

I highly recommend contacting Manfrotto support. Send them an email. Most corporations will get back to you within a day. They are the best people to give you the answer you need and it wont cost you anything. Also, you can request that they call you. Its a little trick that most people don't know about.

Great news site you made there Mike. I've read most of the frontpage stuff and I loved it. Going to keep an eye on it :)

Good to hear. I'll keep it going!

That image hurts my eyes and every time I try to focus on the butterfly, my eyes keep getting pulled to the right with that horribly distorted harsh bokeh, well I think it's distorted, I dunno. All I know if that my eyes are bleeding now. :(

You need to crop that stuff out man.
