Since the story broke awhile ago, speculation has been running rampant on the UT3 expansion - and now Epic's Stacey Conley let a small nugget slip on the UT3 Servers mailing list, when asked about a possible fourth patch for UT3.

There was just a big launch and the developers are working on an expansion for the UT Series. We'll let you know as soon as there is something to announce.

Thanks for your patience. :)

Could it be this expansion is a bit more than what most think? We'll keep you posted!

Yay, more stuff that doesn't mean anything but we will try to read into anyway!

By EXPAND, and SERIES, in the same sentence I think she means they're planning on making a new game that is an MMO.

I also think that "when we have something to announce" means that it is going to be groundbreaking and revolutionary requiring a major press conference.

"thanks for your patience" is also a way of saying it's going to take longer than Duke Nukem Forever until we actually see the game.

Sure thing. They'll drop the development of Gears of War games and go for an UT game instead. Yeah right

Also for an MMO! LMAO!! :D

Nothing new there. Besides, they like Bersy said, they just wrapped up Gears 2. they'll spend the next few months trying to legalize putting rocket launchers on their high performance sports cars. Later, when that falls through they'll resign themselves to working on Gears of War 3: Locusts Gone Wild.

I'll be pleasantly surprised* if the expansion is anything really substantial that will lift UT3 from the depths of "Desktop Icon cleanup utility fodder" and un-glitch the game play while over hauling the ui and allowing for the myriad of customization and optimization so many pc gamers have come to expect in a UT game. (Sorry Epic you guys did set the bar pretty high back when you gave a damn.)

*by pleasantly surprised, I mean I'll fall out of my chair, and immediately start building a shrine to epic games in my basement, recruit young mailable minds into the order and begin the northeastern United States invasion to ensure that every thing is in order when his high Magistrate Cliff Bunny-zinski takes his seat on the throne.

I doubt I have much work ahead of me. Probably won't be worth 1 squirrel sacrifice. :(

I hope they can learn it the UT2003 VS UT2004 way. Because UT2004 actually worked. UT2003 didn't.

They need to give bot tech a serious overhaul. Seriously, what advances have we had in that area in years? Either bring the AI into the present or do away with it altogether. What does Steve Polge even do nowadays :p

Something more like Director AI would be nice :)

Actually, UT3 has reasonable AI for a fast paced action games. How many other times have you seen it done better? :con:

What the hell is this "ballin" thing?
Well reading too far into this meaningless awsomeness can be fun imo.

by "thanks for your patience" she means that they are finally making a jazz jack rabbit game and it is going to be a wii exclusive.

By "big launch" she means that they are actually building their own space station with dildo shaped rockets that transport you there.

"Something to announce" means that they are finnally going to admit that epic is Microsofts bitch and by extension.... epic is pregnant with bill gates babies. They need to make a press announcement so that the media can speculate over whether it is a boy or a girl.

by "ut series" she means that monkies are running america and that redheads descended from orangutans.

By "we'll let you know" they mean that cliff blelaeansxzzkik is actually a martian and that all martians are bloody narcissists.

Reasonable as in, they are there and do what they're supposed to do. For the most part. But we are forced to play with bots offline, and even online more than I care to tbh. Some people say server bots drive them away - I have been leaning more towards that camp myself lately.. Something about seeing a server with 16/24 players, then going in and finding that a whole 2 or 3 of them are actual humans is uber annoying. When I was new to the series I probably would have never known half the time, but most of us aren't like that anymore. So I think they should find more ways to give bots unexpected behaviors, give them more capabilities, like responding to typed commands. I'd like to be able to type "bravo get in" if I'm in a vehicle and want them to stop what they're doing and defend my ass.. or "drop the orb" or associate custom text maybe like "gtfo" will make a bot who stole the manta abandon it so you can take it. Half the boredom in playing gametypes like ONS or WAR with lots of bots is there are never any vehicles left for the actual players, and they can't handle tasks like orb carrying and such. Voice commands or fumbling through command menus is more cumbersome than typing, which we're used to doing quite a lot in game already. This is just one example though, there are surely tons of other areas that could be improved upon as well.

Yeah as much as I agree with you about the AI being reasonable and probably still a leader, I think bersy is right and Epic do have the resources/skills to pull off better AI.

For me its little things like their uncontrollable urge to grab powerups no matter what the battle situation and lack of mutliple target tracking. Things like duel AI being the same as DM AI and bots lacking skills in the no weapon stay department.

The command menu is defiantly in need of an overhaul for team based modes so bots can be controlled better also.

So while it might be adequate I dont think its asking too much for alittle more in regards to AI, it'll also pull Epic further in the lead in that department and make the engine more attractive for licensee's.

Epic certainly did make improvements in the AI from ut2k4->ut3 but theres so much more that can be done these days especially with more and more cores being added to PC's

Personally I wouldnt mind seeing AI data cached on the HDD for use across maps so bots actually learn from playing against you but hey thats just me.

Now I know this is gonna sound like Epic could rely on mod developers for content but do we really need a heap of new maps etc? If we can use all the UT3 ones that have been released in the last year with the expansion there should be more then enough.

Thats not to say Epic shouldnt include some wicked maps, I just dont think it should be priority since lack of content is one of the smallest complaints for games these days. Unless ofcoarse you count the people who expected UT3 to ship with all the 2k4 content from release date to UT3's release date :p

I mean really the main reason we'd be asking for new maps at all is to expand on the theme selection customer mappers have currently would it not?
