somewhere; sometime?
You can't throw out baby with bathwater.

I'm not religious, but I can clearly see that religion, on a personal level does a lot of good for a lot of people. It has been the cause of a lot of sh*t but you can't just excuse all the good it does for people as well. It provides a guiding light to those masses who aren't necessarily perceptive or insightful enough (or just stupid) to develop their own sense of purpose or moral grounds or direction in life. It gives people who would otherwise feel like they had no sense of social connection a community to belong to, church gives them that release they need at the end of the week from their stresses.

A lot of people use their faith to call on in times of adversity. If that's their rock then that's great, if they need that belief to get by because the thought of having nothing to look forward to gets them down then that's just fine. You hear about these crack heads or general low life's "finding Jesus" and cleaning up their act all the time. If that's the only thing that worked for them then why bash it?

Religion can be gross, but there's extremes when it comes to any organized group of people, no matter their cause. You can't try and completely throw it out, on a personal scale it helps a lot of people get by and/or keeps them on the right track.

I'm not talking about faith. Faith is fine, I'm talking about religion as a dogmatic system.

The logical conclusion of it is something like the Catholic Church. It's hard to imagine a more repellent organisation.

It's an organisation that preaches hate, fosters intolerance, denies logic and has no problem with ignoring it's own scriptures for political profit or material gain. It has no problem with crushing dissent and covering up it's own corruptions. It has no problem with killing unbelievers on a epic scale, and who considers all other faiths as lies, and all those of other faiths damned.

The same could be said for many Christian churches, but the Catholic Church wins the prize by being the most enthusiastically ruthless for the longest period of time.

Just Christianity? No.

The entire Middle East is swept with War due to fanatics of every faith. Islamic fundamentalist slaughter thousands, while Christian fundamentalists from the West do likewise. Religion is the key here. Would you see the same level of bloodshed if all the people of the Middle East were God-fearing protestant Christians? I don't think so.

Don't think I'm leaving Judaism out of this. The continual, arrogant boasting about being "God's chosen people" doesn't do them any favours. God has no chosen people. Same goes for Zionism.

Religion may have done great good over the years. I hold many religious people and groups in high esteem personally.

But on balance, the good is crushingly outweighed by the evil.

I'd make Fallout 3, with complete and utter disregard to anything after Fallout 2, except Van Buren. Those design docs are very inspiring. Read them sometime.

I'd have a fortified tower and fort built upon a hilltop and a rather large crossbow... because you never know when a zombie apocalypse might occur.

At the top of the tower will be an extensive library and study that, for all the world will look like some place gandalf would hang out in with spinny globes that are slightly brown with age and books that have covers peeling off and such, oine of those classic ooms where once your inside you can't find the way out again because the door looks just like all the other book cases... The PS3, PC and other such things will be stowed away but functional... there will be a hammock.
The rest of the fort will likely be setup to be fairly self sufficient and will have rooms and supplies to house many people, including guests, family members, friends and ofcourse refugee/survivors from the zombie apocalypse... Or if i go ad with megalomania maybe i'll fill the rooms with guards and scientists to help me with my diabolical plans, who's to say? Best to have the contingency I say, secret escape tunnels/pods/hatches/labs etc go without saying.

I might travel a bit but i'll likely lock myself away in my study most of the time, working on projects, art and world domination... untill i get bored and play some GTA4 or something.

Oh just the usual stuff. Pay all debts(vehicle, student loan, credit card). Buy a house, and not a fancy one like most people would do. Just enough for me and the women that get attracted to me because we all know most women are attracted to the moolah :)

Other than that, I will give a percentage to the mom and pops and put the rest in the bank.

Because organised religion (primarily Abrahamic religion) is the number one cause of hate and genocide on this planet. We, as a species, are far better off without it.

It's the single biggest barrier to human unity.

What a piece of crap. Religion is an excuse for hate, not the instigator of it. Nearly every single war in which religion has been cited as the "reason" was really just a land/power grab. Hatred and murder is as natural to people as eating, and it will never go away.

There is a correlation between war and religion, but it's a tenuous one at best and you would have to be an ignorant monkey to really think that one causes the other. Religion is as much to blame for war as videogames are to blame for violent crime.

Now, what would I do with the money? After investing in the public schooling system (what a load it is), I would install a small quadHD home theater system in my house and array myself and my friends with brilliantly overpriced gaming set-ups and buy one of the Tesla Roadsters when they debut.

That is incorrect.

"Religion was the cause of 123 wars in the encyclopaedia (Philips Charles and Alan Axelrod - "Encyclopaedia of Wars"), which represents only 6.98 percent of all the wars recorded in the encyclopaedia." - Vox Day "The Irrational Atheist" pg 105

Some of the largest genocides ether committed were certainly not done because of religion (Nazi Germany, Stalin).

As for money:
I'd give away lots to charity, but as well I'd get:
A fully functional recording studio with all the bells and whistles, including:
Several top end guitars (PRS Custom 24, Music Man JP Signature 6 and 7 strings, Ibanez Jem, Chapman Stick etc)
A few Bass guitars (Music Man Bongo 4, 5 and 6 string)
Several top end amps
A whole bunch of effects units and the like (TC Electronic, Eventide etc)
A few drum kits (acoustic ala Mike Portnoy and electric, as well as combinations of the both)
Several top end keyboards, and a grand piano

Buy my own Orchestra and Choir.

Spend the rest of my life composing music, and making cds, hopefully starting off a few new bands as well.

I can't wait for TWD to be rich, because after we give to all of the charities, I will be at home living luxuriously in Ibiza Spain.

Let TWD have his dreams to make all of this wonderful money....
he will end up spending AT LEAST a good 40% on me!;)

I would pay to take lessons from some of the finest musicians to become the piano soloist I have always wanted to be.

See, now you're really making it look like you actually are TWD, because no woman will ever, ever ask for only 40%.

I just mean for me only to spend.
You have to understand that in the sense of what he and I like to do for fun, we ARE the same person. We enjoy the SAME THINGS, so any toys or big things that he would buy are things that I would want to....
I only need 40% for myself because the other 60% is being spent on things we BOTH want. hahahahaha

I will prove that he and I are not the same person when I post some of our wedding pics online. :)

You wouldn't marry me? :(

I'd buy a 4-bedroom Edwardian townhouse for me to live in, a home of choice for my parents, and a flat for my brother.

I'd then buy a couple of houses to rent out to people and live off the income of those.

With anything else I had left over, I'd either buy me a man, or get Jake Gyllenhaal to give me a lapdance.
